Tabb's freshman pitcher threw quite a game vs. Lafayette throwing a total of 8 strikeouts compared to that of Bruce who threw 7. I see this as quite an accomplishment and it just goes to show the overall strength and determination of Tabb's freshman pitcher. But not only is she an amazing pitcher her batting average is somewhere in the .300 range. She's an overall athlete! Maybe when Gleason is a senior throwing incredibly like usual the Daily Press will do an article on her. Again.. doubt it highly, but you have to always hope. Guess fourth place lowly Tabb is not worth the Daily Press and it's time.
Just wanted to say good job Gleason! Keep up the great work and throw like you always do in the tourney!

She would deserve one ..good player. But this being the year of everybody gets a meaningless story written about them ..Golly there have been so many this year what is going on? Maybe she should wait until it would mean something. Good luck to her. I guess this was the year of my kid had a good game call the daily press quick. This has nothing to do with her, again great player but I cant take any more articles. In that case just about every kid should have one.

Just wondering???????? Are you saying that the girls who have been written about in the Daily Press didn't deserve to be? Some articles are done because they are Seniors. A little recognition your Senior year is great for any player, especially if there are going on to play in college-no matter where that might be. Remeber the articles are for the girls.

um tabbs in 4th and when you play good games is when you make the press
when you show yourself is when you make the press
it shouldnt matter if your 1st or 2nd who wants to read stupid articles about the same teams all the time unless it was a good game

I often read here that many believe there is a bias in the writings of the Daily Press. They cover the games they think are interesting to cover. I don't think they are going to cover the Jamestown-Southampton games. They covered the Tabb-Lafayette game. Regardless of the winner, the writer chose to write about Katie Bruce, who had a quality season and put up some impressive numbers, i.e. strikeouts. When I have seen Katie play, she has impressed me. On Tuesday they chose to cover the Poquoson-Bruton game. Expecting to see Poquoson clinch the regular season title most likely. Bruton needing to win or their season was over. Poquoson loses. Bruton wins. Falin pitches well. Writer interviews the winners. Article written. I don't think the writers go out of their way to just write articles about individual players until the STATS or CIRCUMSTANCES give them a reason to do so. I'm sure all of these players will get their press time.

I hope the Stats will speak for themselves. All of us who watch sports at any level know that is what it's all about, when speaking of personal acievement. Strikes, Walks, Errors, Hits. RBI's ect...That is the true measure of the players individual efforts, and ultimately the outcome of the contests. I think our family is happy with this years achievments, looking forward to the future, and anything else would be well, "Just great!" If accolades must come with tenure, then so be it!
I would like to see all of the posts "Come out of the closet" and identify their self..... I hate being the only one....(Well, ya know... not like that, and...not that there's anything wro....I mean....hey!...um...LOL)

Oh and Snowclaf, did you mean to infer me in your post? I've never contacted the daily press other than to advertise....By the way, Hey Danielle! Don't be mad at me for arguing with the parents! Love ya,
Dad

drich you are so right. The articles are there by opportunity. You have to be in the right place at the right time. There are only so many reporters and so many games and teams in the area. Not just softball but baseball, boys and girls soccer, and boys and girls track. There are also different districts such as TCIS, BRD, PD and the Mathews district. I think the DP has a tough job and I am sure they are doing the best they can.

Coach Falin is put into a pickle of a situation. Usually the "Press" acknowledges the winning pitcher if there is a close game. His daughter just happened to be the winning pitcher in a tough game with high consequences. People have said it all starts in the circle. It is not fair but that is the reality of fast pitch softball. Everyone wants a hard throwing junkball pitcher with great control. You and I both know that the pitcher needs a great catcher and infielders and outfielders to go with her but the pitcher starts every play.

Ok,Ok sorry again, I will try to do better explaining. I know some of you have had to noticed the amount of articles done by a pitcher pitching no-hitters, one hitters, ect. all year (in other districts mostly) I was really trying to touch on that. And I said in my previous post and repeat again the girl we were speaking of is well deserved; maybe instead of one of the articles we have already seen we could have seen one on her instead. No, Mike I wasn't directing to you, just firsthand knowledge of others. Sorry again that I had to clarify what I meant.

Drich is right (thanks for keeping the conversation interesting). Sometimes it is about having the right game on the right day with the right people in attendance. Bruce only started getting press as a senior because it is the first time Lafayette has ever played in high profile games. When the DP showed up to cover the New Kent vs. Laf game, Bruce threw a one hitter (not against Southampton or Heritage...it was New Kent) so of course she got some press for that. She was fortunate enough to have a great game on the right day.
Same for Falin on Tuesday. Bruton beat Poquoson in a must win situation and she carried a shutout into the 7th. She had the right game on the right day, so she becomes the story. Don't hate the kids because of their good timing.
Having said that, Gleason has had a great year. I really like the way she and the whole Tabb team plays and conducts their business with class. Hats off to Coach Aultman too. They will get their share of press coverage and recognition, even if it doesn't come this year...it will come.

The next week is going to be a showcase for the BRD. Today's games are great matchups. The teams split their games during the season. Saturday's games should be great matchups as well. If a team or individual is deserving of attention, they will get it: especially on Saturday.

I know. (That I'm crazy, Danielle) I think everyone should just have fun....Hey Sno- Thanks for your post, I probably mis-read that scenario. I'm sure I'll see you at the games. All of us have watched our kids play ball for about what, 7 years...
I really think it's fun watching all of these talented girls play. Our players, affiliated for years with tournament teams, have friends on PD and BRD...This brings me to another point. (And this is open for discussion...)
Combine!
I have been told (By many incoming clients) That they were told this area is a virtual Hotbead for Baseball/Softball...With the close level of play between these two districts, wouldn't it benifit our girls to have, say for example, a 7 game play-off between BRD and PD top two teams? Is this not allowed? Illegal? Politicaly incorrect?
Again, this is just an idea, open for discussion. Have at it. :D

What would be nice is to have something like college basketballs ACC-Big Ten challenge. Problem with that is the VHSL rule limiting the softball teams to a 20 game season. With Warhill coming in next year, the BRD season will be 20 games. There will be no more out of district games unless something changes.

All the more reason to send Southampton to Courtlands district ..they are closer does anyone know why Southampton does not play in their closer district?I know that it is a AA district.I was really hoping they would be dropped in place of Warhill. Not only is the travel an issue but now it limits our schedule.

It would be nice if we could eliminate that drive to Southampton (no offense). Also, it would stink if some of the non-district rivalries that have been initiated would have to end. I know Poquoson has played Kellam for a while and Lafayette has played Gloucester. Those games let us know where our district stands when compared with the other districts.
The BRD-PD challenege would be a lot of fun. From what I have seen, only Gloucester can play with the BRD. I think they are the only PD team that would make our district playoffs. Not trying to slam the PD but that's what it looked like to me.

I saw several BRD games this year and I think you are under estimating many of the teams in the PD. I feel the top 6 in the PD would match-up fairly evenly the top 6 in the BRD. The pitching is much better in the PD.
