Micki Legend makes a visit
By DAVE JOHNSON | djohnson@dailypress.com (djohnson@dailypress.com)
NEWPORT NEWS -- One of the best pitchers in Peninsula District softball history was in Woodside's dugout Monday night for its quarterfinal matchup against Kecoughtan.
But Micki Rodriguez was there only as a fan, advisor and big sister.
Micki shouted encouragement to her sister, Regina, who was the Wolverines' winning pitcher. Their baby sister, Sofie, is Woodside's starting catcher.
Micki helped lead the Wolverines to an 80-14 record from 2001-04, including the state championship as a freshman. She was 61-10 on the mound with an ERA of 0.60 and was a .480 hitter.
Rodriguez just concluded her junior year at Norfolk State, where she batted .250 at first base and pitcher.
