It was an awesome game. Menchville thought it was a walk on, and Bethel came to play. The 1st half play was very even. About half way Bethel Goalie Hull attempted to clear the ball in a crowded box. The ball was delfected back in and off a Bethel player and into the goal. A lucky score. Late into the 2nd half Bethel pushed more girls up front trying to break a few more shots. In the last minute Menchville made a break, and with less defenders to clear the ball, made a good lobbed shot over Hull for the clincher.
Menchvilles top forward Jordan Snyder was relatively quiet the whole game. # 11 was the girl who scored, I think both goals. Bethel missed 3 great opportunities to tie it up , which could have changed the outcome of the game. Menchville had to mark Bethel's Jones with 3 players to neutralize her.
Both defenses were solid. #4, Joan Burleson saved Menchville. Baker and Balckburn were especially tough for Bethel.
Both Goalies did a good job, and although Hull allowed two scores , she played an awesome game.
The game was a bit of a nailbiter. Bethel played with heart. It's been a long time since they made district. Wish Jones wasn't a senior. We will miss her next year, ( and a couple others). But we are up and coming.
Final Score Menchville 2, Bethel 0.
Kecoughtan 3 Heritage 0.
I only watched about 1/3 of their game, but what I saw KHS dominated the play. First score was by Linzy Ross, I think, The second came from a missed shot by Cato off the cross bar as #2 Mallory rebounded it for the score. The third was Catherine Perry.
Referees: Compliments for calling two good games. Whoever assigned the refs made a good selection.

#11 is Sarah Schmit, and I Joanie probably shut down the offense just becasue she can, and i know that Jordan snyder did well up top againts bethel. Both goals went to Sarah Schmit, even if they were ugly, a goal is a goal.

Thanks for her name. I forgot it from game time. Her first goal was lucky. The second was a good shot. She put it where the Goalie couldn't get to it. A shot doesn't have to blow the back of the net to be good. Snyder was ok, she just didn't make her presence felt on the field like I expected.

Menchville also sat two starters the whole game for missing practice, one of which is going to play D1 college soccer next year. That may of had an effect on the whole lineup.

I bet if Menchville lost, the coach would feel dumb for teaching a senior a "lesson". Bad timing for a life lesson, not starting would have sufficed. If you make practice fun and engaging...they will come. Put the ownership back on the player.

He did the right thing. If you are not taught to be held accountable for your actions now, you will not survive real life. If you want to be a part of a winning team then you have to take the team seriously and the practice seriously. You play like you practice... I know there will be arguements with that, but at this level, how do you develop a team without structure. The fun part is when you played the best you could and can be happy that you gave it everything you've got. The "ownership" was the punishment. What does that tell the team when your best players don't make it to practice? It is not rec...

I respectfully disagree! The player does take the sport of soccer seriously if she is going to be playing Div 1 soccer. The timing was my point. Luckily it all worked out for Menchville. Believe me the players' travel/ODP coach and her whole life experience around soccer is her soccer life lesson...evidently she does have ownership and passion for the sport if she is at this level.
What do you do, just go through both the boys and girls soccer forums and give your unknowledgeable, biased opinions on everything. No joke, it's not recreation...pick your life lessons appropriately and evaluate the whole situation.

Yeah, that is exactly it... You are so smart!
I do not care how good the player is, if you do not show up then you do not go up. Being a coach, I would have done the same thing and would have made a point in the loss (had there been one) for the fact that a rule or expectation stands regardless of how well the player plays. You are not teaching anyone anything by changing the rules to suit the player.
It is awesome that they have players that made it to D1 soccer, that does not change that she did not go to practice. Knowing their coach, there had to be more to the situation than what is being shared.
With regard to your slander of my comments, it is a forum. This is all in good fun and I would be careful who you slander considering you have no idea who is who. Perhaps it is you that is unknowledgeable and biased. We are all entitled to our opinions. You thought the coach was wrong, I thought he was right. Does it really matter? NOPE!

I posted my opinion in #8 and then you were sarcastic ("opinion" and "rec")in your post/reply #9. So, you started this banter, not I. If you were simply posting your opinion you wouldn't have referenced any of my post...now would you???
Yeah, you won...you are the King/Queen of the HRVarsity Girls Forum...let me be the first to congratulate you on a fine job!
I am done, feel free to post all you want. You probably get off on it!
I second soccerfun07. It is completley unfair for the rest of the team to be committed and still sit the bench for an uncommitted player. What would that teach the rest of the team? Don't go to pracitce and still play? No one would show up for practice. Winning is good but it's not everything. The coach did the right thing.

Ya know, it is funny how the DP will put other responses, but not mine... Boardnchik07 - it is fun to see what others think and to have good natured debates. Sorry you got so offended. It was not my intention... This forum gives some of us an outlet to share what we think...
