Great job Norcom players and staff. I am surprised I thought you guys could not pull it off and you did. Last night was evident with about 8,000 fans at the Scope yall put the iceing on the cake. Maury was shut down completely and I am not one to say Maury was tiredand what not but they just got outplayed and completely got shut down. Seven points in second half wont get you far Maury. Congrats again to Norcom again and Congrats also to Maury and Good Luck in State against the Central Region.
Yes, it is time to drop the Peninsula vs Southside debate and say go Hampton Roads.
Go Norcom! Go Maury! Bring it home!
A lot of work to do, but remember that each of you beat one of the top teams in the state already.
Let's get it done!

Quick question, why didn't you think they could pull it off? Norcom has been the best team in the Eastern District for some many years. They beat Kings Fork, Norfolk Christian and and undefeated team out of North Caralino when they played them.
So why did you think that?

I thought that because Norcom never shows up in the playoffs and this year yall proved me wrong and also you sure did disrespect Booker T saying Norcom has been the best team for some many years. This should not be a surprise to you it's not like yall were the heavy favorites to win the ER Championship at the beginning. A lot of people had Phoebus and Indian River ahead of Norcom in that bracket but now we all know and now you have the right to talk smack because Norcom proved a lot of people wrong. So now the revenge tour is complete next stop Williamsburgh.

It is no disrespect to Booker T at all, but the fact is the Southeastern District is weak and Norcom has won the Eastern District Regular Season or Tournament more than any other team since 2000. Last year was the first year they got knocked out of the first round. Phoebus I can understand, but Indian River, I don’t know what would make you think that they were going to make it far. They only beat one good team all year long. Norcom may have proved yall wrong, but everybody in Portsmouth and the Eastern District is not a surprise. ****, they even picked Norcom to win the District and they did.
Fact is that I have always thought they were the favorites, but they have been slept on for so many years, due to the bad coaching. We don’t have the best coaches, but we have always had great talent. The thing with time is that coaching will get better, because people we learn from their mistakes and along with the coaching getting better the team got better. They stopped lowing expectations to their opponent’s talent and playing every team like they are playing the best team in the state and they are getting results. Maury is a great team, but that 20 point loss was more of a wake-up call than them being the better team.
Dorian Finney-Smith was quoted as saying after the game “they beat us by 20 when we want playing hard, so we wanted to return the favor.” Same thing with Phoebus (although I think they have been the best team Norcom has played all year, and Norcom has played some good teams,) they took Phoebus lately and got beat, but they beat them when it really counts.
I am not ready to say that we are going to win the State Championship, but I will say if Canty, Anderson and Theus all put up 10 or more, we can beat any team with Dorian Finney-Smith just being a passer and a rebounder. If they all put up 10 or more and he gets his regular total, they look out state! Hopefully we can bring it back home to Portsmouth for the cities first State Championship since 1993.

Yeah thats the thing that cast has to produce because they can't afford to take any games off. You know Finney will be there but man I thought last year was yall year with those dynamic guards. But hey yall here now and its time to go. I know Norcom will be comeing with the band and everything. Whats up with Maury is there anyone giveing them a shot?

I am giving them a shot. Maury isn't a bad team at all. I do believe Petersburg is a good team, but honestly they haven't really played anybody. People will say that they played GW Danville, but where is GW Danville now (at home.) If they come out and dominate Maury then I will give them the credit, but I am going with Maury right now as the winner of that game.

Du'Vaughn Maxwell of Petersburg and Finney-Smith will battle, but who else will show up for Norcom. He was tough against Travis McKie of John Marshall who is a very dynamic player.
It will be interesting to see how Finney-Smith handles this challenge.

One of the biggest differences though is Finney-Smith has faith in his team. Travis McKie doesn't! This is why overall their year wasn't all that good. Finney-Smith is a pass first type player

If he has a year like this next year he should. He will probably be even taller and a lot better.
That's Scary!

You are probably right.
It is easy to forget that some of these kids aren't seniors.
He will probably run with Boo's team this summer, too.
He will be playing against the best talent in the country week in and week out.
That will take his game up a notch.
Dejesus had a nice handle last year, but when he came back from the summer, he really had a nose for the bucket.
Interested to see what Finney-Smith adds this summer.

Gardner from Kings Fork comes to mind. I guess if he would have won the region he would have been it but hey you can't go wrong with Finney. Congats big time and also those Finneys are a very talented family.

I guess the Central and Eastern are the two top dogs in Boys hoops this year and they face off in first round how crazy is that. Maury should give Petersburg a run for there money. Petersburgh will be definitely challenged from what i seen of Maury but I don't know to much about Petersburgh. I give Maury a shot especially what they did in the ER tourney and the teams they had to go through to get to this game. I do know Thomas Dale played Petersburgh close one game earlier this year so take that for what its worth and Thomas Dale is #10 ranked team in state behind Norcom so both games will definitely be very interesting.

Gardner is a great player; I wouldn’t have been disappointed if he would have won it. I do think Finney deserved it though. He has been consistent each game.
Regarding the other teams, they simply got knocked out.
I am not sold on Petersburg yet, I will have to see what they do against Maury to really tell that.

Norcom won their first round, should’ve been a blowout. Thomas Dale is nowhere near the team that Phoebus is and Maury proves to me that Petersburg is definitely beatable.
Norcom beat Thomas Dale, despite bad games by Dorian and Jeremy and basically everybody but DeCarlos.
Finney-Smith still manages 17 points of 3-13 shooting. He also had 16 rebounds.
Jeremy was just horrible; I think he let the trash talk get to him.
We have a hard one Wednesday though!
Maury lost that game because they went four minutes without a score, but they still only lost by 4.
Thomas Dale must have bought their own referees because once this game got ugly, the refs starting making bad call after bad call against Norcom. Also, Norcom didn’t help their self’s by missing free throws.
Ugly win, but we will take it.

Maury always pick the wrong times to have a drought. It's a good thing Anderson came up big or it would have been a sad day. It's always good to win your region and host a game than going on road and winning quarter finals as we see every year, but this year so happens Eastern Region got the raw end of the deal. Good year Maury and Norcom congrats on your win and we will see what Chantilly got now. One thing about Petersburg the VHSL sure don't make them travel far no matter what VCU is like there second home and I wonder if they ever thought about Petersburgh hosting qtrs at Williamsburgh and Norcom hosting at Hampton. I bet they never thought of that because they will do whatever to keep the Siegal Center occupied and Petersburgh and Richmond happy.

Yea, Petersburg is actually playing home. VCU is not a neutral site for them. Norcom really should have blown Thomas Dale out, if they can get pass Chantilly, I believe they can beat Petersburg. Actually Norcom is more athletic and has more size than Petersburg.
Anything is possible though!

All the Supersites are predetermined. There were six sites and the every single school in the state of Virginia was assigned to a particular site long before the State play-offs. Here you go: http://www.vhsl.org/files/bkb-supersites-20100222.pdf

Yeah but they need to rethink this and go back to the old format next year and reward the teams who win there region with a home game. I bet if they do this Supersite thing again Petersburgh will be right back at Siegal Center again, but it still surprises me they have not won as many championships considering home court every year in playoffs and they also play a few regular season games there also.

Could be that the VHSl finds it more economically feasible and logistically efficient to have 6 supersites statewide rather than 10-20 regional "home" venues.

Whats economically feasible about the home time spending more time on the road then the away time? Also with the 10-20 regional home sites it would be economically feasible for that city and school. Especially in the tought times that we are facing.

VHSL runs the state tournament. They bear the costs of running the sites. The schools would be travelling by bus to some site regardless if it were W&M or Churchland or the Scope. Teams were not playing true "home" games prior to this year. They were travelling to a predetermined local site. If a Hampton or Newport News school had won the region in previous years they would have played the game at Churchland. This year they would have travelled to W&M. Same difference to the schools. Just so happened that all the schools from the Eastern Reigon this year were from the Southside so they had to travel through the tunnel for their home game. Not much more of a financial burden to Princess Anne and Norcom.
Why should the VHSL rent 10-20 different venues when they can do everything at 6 sites? Now the VHSL can employ only 6 site supervisors and associated staff instead of 10-20.

Ok but their no cost if they host the games at their school, like they have all season long. A home team shouldn't have to travel 1hour and 5 mins to play unless its the state Championship itself. Nor should teams like Petersburg be able to play at VCU for the State if they weren't to make it. It's unfair because they have played the majority of their home games their!:clap2:

How many AAA champions have come from the Central region over the last 10 years? I think the Eastern region has done pretty well at VCU over the years.
It's not that big of deal to the players and coaches. The players like playing on the big stage.
So you think the State semi-finals should be played at home sites also? Who would you determine as the home team once you get to the Final Four?

Now DeAndre you are starting to sound like a big Petersburg hater and conjuring up excuses for IF your Greyhounds get there and IF they lose to the Wave. Now Petersburg does not play a lot of home games in the Siegel Center so you are not well informed. If you know anything about Petersburg you would know that their gym is a great atmosphere to play in because the fans are rowdy and it seats a lot. Built just like BTW's gym but bigger with the two sections. Next the Siegel Center is a 30-40 minute drive from their school. They played the semi-finals of the regionals the finals of the regionals and a state quarterfinal game at that venue, so that makes 3 games. You make it sound like they played 8-9 games there they played just as many games at the Siegel Center as Norcom played @ the Scope. Many of the kids from Norcom have played dozens of games at the Siegel for AAU. For MANY years the state tournament was held in Lynchburg and people were complaining to move it to a central location, now its a complaint because YOU see a disadvantage for Norcom.

I am no way near a hater of Petersburg. I like them. Nor have any of my comments made it seemed that way. All I was simply saying that they have played lots of games at VCU this year alone. You missed a couple of games. They played Benedictine there, and from my sources Armstrong. That’s 5 games. Also tomorrow it will make 6. That is 6 more games, as far as experience at that gym. The Siegel Center is not a 30-40 minute drive.
I went to VSU, and drove to VCU on the regular it’s more like 20 at the most. It’s not a disadvantages to Norcom and nor did I say that either. However, I do believe that it should be in different areas every year, because if a central region team makes it every year, they will be playing at home every year basically. It doesn’t matter what court you play on, I am not the person who believes in home-court advantages, however their should be more randomness to the process!

20 minutes in a car equals 30-40 on a bus. I graduated from Hopewell and if you know anything about rivalries around that way Petersburg is my rival high school. Petersburg did not play Armstrong at Siegel they played @ VSU. They played Bendictine in the Lawson Classic at Petersburg High School named after their late coach who is this coaches father. So, you might want to look into better sources because they were all off their first game at the Siegel Center was Central Region tournament against John Marshall.
Now as for your idea of moving the tournament around it is fine at VCU and will be there for a lot of years to come because the VHSL renewed their contract. It is centrally located and in the capital city. You are complaining about a hour and half drive last year I talked to fans of schools like Virginia High who had to leave at 3 am just to make it to a 12:00 game last year on the bus.

Sorry I actually just recieved this message. However, as you probably know now Norcom has won and is playing for the State AAA championship tomorrow night. Chantilly has a 7-1 player, in which Dorian ducked up to change the game yesterday.
After that Chantilly could barely get the ball across court. Chantilly has a nice guard and players that can knock down the three, but other then that they are not tough.

Siegal Center is going to be the place to be tomorrow night. Petersburgh vs Norcom and Lake Taylor vs Princess Anne excitement will definitely be in the air. I personally have not had a chance to see Petersburgh play this year, so i definitely want to see what all the hypes about. Can P.A repeat? and will L.T girls ever win the championship with this group of girls? Can Norcom stop the Petersburgh run for perfection? and can Petersburgh slow down Finney-Smith and Mr big time Anderson? those questions will definitely be answered tomorrow night. Congrats to Norcom, Lake Taylor and Princess Anne in earning another ride up to Richmond for the championship.

Norcom are the underdogs, once again and they usually play that role well.
The funny thing about it is that, they say Norcom is the underdog, but when they win the call the other team sorry and say Norcom should have blown them out.

You can call Petersburg whatever you want, but you will not call them State Champions. They tried their best to use their bullying tactics to get Norcom players out of the game and all it did is made Norcom want to win even more. I saw on the other sites how people continue to make excuses for them. Fact is, they were up 10 with 6 minutes to go and everybody had ridden Norcom off.
They beat Petersburg with three starters fouling out, including Dorian Finney-Smith.
Even before the game, nobody give them a shot and now they are the
2010 VIRGINIA HIGH SCHOOL STATE BASKETBALL CHAMPIONS!
GREAT JOB!
I am going to leave yall with this prediction before the game:
Norcom guard DeCarlos Anderson made a promise following the Greyhounds’ win in the Group AAA state semifinal game.
He told anyone who would listen to him that Norcom would bring home a state title to the Greyhound fans.
“We will not fail them,” he said. “I promise you that, we will bring it home.”
