Depending on what happens Wednesday night in the Bay Rivers District tournament semifinals, an interesting situation could develop.
In boys soccer, Jamestown is the regular-season champion and is automatically the district's No. 1 seed in the regional tournament. Lafayette is the second seed in the district tournament and could be No. 2 from the district in the regional.
On the girls side, the teams are reversed. Lafayette is automatically in the regional as the No. 1 seed and Jamestown is the No. 2 seed in the district tournament.
If all four Williamsburg teams win their semifinal matchups, the four would be locked in as host teams for the Region I quarterfinals next Tuesday. And all four use Cooley Field in Williamsburg as their home field.
Regional officials have decided that if that happens, they would not play four games at Cooley Field on Tuesday. Instead, there would be a doubleheader at Cooley and a doubleheader at Bruton High School.
The top seeds, Lafayette girls and Jamestown boys, would play their games at Cooley. The second seeds, Jamestown's girls and Lafayette's boys, would play their games at Bruton.
At both sites, the girls games would be at 5:30 and the boys at 7:30.
Again, this scenario only comes into play if all four teams win their semifinal matchups Wednesday night.
