VIRGINIA BEACH -- Bayside's improbable run in the Beach District baseball tournament continues.
The Marlins, the tournament's No. 7 seed, beat No. 3 Ocean Lakes 8-6 Tuesday night at Landstown High School. Bayside, which had already dispatched of No. 2 Princess Anne in Saturday's quarterfinal, got a solid relief outing from D'andte Bussey to hold off the Dolphins and advance to Thursday's district title game.
Bayside will play Kempsville, which beat top-seeded Cox 5-2 in the first semifinal game. Neil Ramirez, who has committed to Georgia Tech and is expected to be a high pick in June 7's Major League Baseball draft, threw 6 1/3 strong innings and hit another seventh-inning home run.
The game will determine which team gets the district's second spot in the Eastern Region tournament, held May 28, 30 and 31 at Old Dominion University's Bud Metheny Baseball Complex. Cox, by virtue of winning the regular season, will get the district's top seed, despite Tuesday's loss.
