NORFOLK -- Maury won the Eastern District boys soccer title Tuesday night at Powhatan Field, and it didn't even need Tony Tchiani to do it.
Wil Grimes scored twice and Earl Floyd added a goal of his own as the Commodores beat Churchland 3-1.
Grimes found the net early in the first half, and Floyd followed with his lone goal of the night.
Danny Lambert scored for the Truckers to cut Maury's lead to 2-1 at halftime. But Grimes scored again in the second half to give the Commodores a cushion -- and the district title.
Maury already had the district's top seed in the Eastern Region tournament -- held May 29, 30 and June 1--at Powhatan Field -- by virtue of winning the regular-season title. Churchland will take the district's second seed.
