By Norm Wood | nwood@dailypress.com
There’s still a softball tournament champion to be determined in the Bay Rivers District, but the upper tier teams already know where they’re headed for the Region I tournament.
All Region I quarterfinal games are scheduled to be played Monday, while the semifinals are Wednesday and the championship will be Friday. New Kent (19-3), which will meet Poquoson tonight at 7 in the district tournament championship game at York High, is the district’s top seed going into the Region I tournament. New Kent will host Courtland, the No. 2 seed from the Battlefield District, at 5 p.m. in the quarterfinals.
As the No. 2 seed from the Bay Rivers District, Poquoson (16-5) will travel to play at Nandua, the top seed from the Eastern Shore District. Grafton (16-6) locked up the No. 3 seed from the Bay Rivers District, and will play at 2 p.m. at Powhatan, which is the No. 1 seed from the Southside District.
In the other Region I quarterfinal, Nottoway, which is the No. 2 team from the Southside District, will play at Chancellor, the Battlefield District No. 1 seed.
