WEDNESDAY’S SEMIFINALS
Grafton-Powhatan winner vs. Courtland-New Kent winner —Powhatan would host the semifinal game by winning in the quarterfinal; New Kent would host the semifinal if Powhatan loses.
Nottoway-Chancellor winner vs.
Poquoson-Nandua winner —Nandua is would host the semifinal by winning in the quarterfinal; Chancellor would host the semifinal if Nandua loses.

OUTLOOK: Powhatan’s Sarah Davis was this season’s Southside District pitcher of the year. She was one of four Powhatan players, including catcher Michelle Phillips, infielder Emily Morris and outfielder Kaitlyn Crane, to earn first-team all-district honors. New Kent comes into the tournament on a 10-game winning streak and is led by pitcher Becca Mills (20-3), who was a first-team all-Bay Rivers District choice, catcher Laura Bauer and shortstop Anush Mooradian (six home runs). Courtland has a losing record, but last Thursday beat Chancellor 2-1 for the Battlefield District tournament championship. Poquoson will have to depend on pitcher Sarah Evans (14-4). The top portion of Poquoson’s batting order, which includes leadoff hitter Page Turner (team-best 10 stolen bases), left fielder Shannon Rollins, second baseman Taylor Walker (five home runs) and right fielder Catherine Clavin (team-high 14 RBI), will have to stay hot. Nandua will counter with pitcher Cheryl Harte (16-2). Nottoway is led by Southside District co-player of the year Justine Payne.
