Actually it was 3 in a row from 2001 - 2002...they lost in the regular season to Hampton in 03 and beat them in the playoffs

Just one of the many times Hampton got caught, but they couldn't get the good "ole boys" to save them from this one.

Butch Pegram transferred from Menchville to Hampton and played in the first two games against Phoebus and Roanoke Patrick Henry. Our computer archives don't go back that far, but as I recall the district/VHSL ruled Pegram hadn't met the transfer rules and forced Hampton to forfeit the first two games, then later said Pegram was OK to play in subsequent games, but the forfeits stood.

AGain, I don't have access to our stories at the time, so correct me if I'm wrong.

I wasn't anywhere around during that time, but the 2 game "forfiet" seems reasonable for using "illegal players".... justice was served! The icing on the cake is finishing the rest of the season undefeated and winning a State Championship.... Talk about a textbook ending!

pretty much on que Lynn. If I remember correctly, Pegram (went on to do well for VA Tech) was a highly productive receiver in the PD. When he left, Menchville wasn't to happy. Hampton already had an all american reciver in Terrence "Hubba Bubba" Howell and Pegram just added more to the passing game.

No, the good "ole boys" were Hampton Alumni, who just happened to be running the city. Just like they gave a pass to Jay Brown living out of zone. You weren't at the meeting in Newport News on that case.
