In girls volleyball Tuesday, Denbigh Baptist (18-4, 14-1) clinched at least a share of the Metro Conference title with a 25-15, 25-15, 25-19 victory against Atlantic Shores.

Kimber Schindler had 12 kills and nine digs for Denbigh Baptist, which will take the outright title if it beats faces second-place Broadwater Academy on Thursday. …

Grafton (16-1, 15-0) cleared one of its last obstacles to the Bay Rivers District regular-season title, beating New Kent 25-15, 25-16, 25-18 behind Morgan Kline’s 18 kills. ...

Monique St. Cyr had 28 assists, three aces and three digs as Jamestown (16-4, 13-2 Bay Rivers) continued its path toward a likely Region I tournament berth, beating Tabb 25-20, 25-11, 25-13 to tighten its grip on second place ahead of New Kent. …

Tidewater District-leading Mathews swept King and Queen Central in a pair of 3-0 matches. …

BOYS SOCCER

Denbigh Baptist (13-5, 10-0) defeated Atlantic Shores 5-1 to win the outright Metro Conference regular-season championship for the second straight year and finish unbeaten for the first time since 2004. Micah Shenk and Eric Hodges each had a goal and an assist.

The Minutemen yielded just five goals in 10 conference games. They will begin Metro tournament play Oct. 26. ...

Daniel Farris’ second-half goal on Dan Houck’s assist stood up as top-seeded Bethel Christian (11-0) defeated visiting Leesburg Christian (5-9), last year’s champion, 1-0 to reach the Old Dominion Association of Church Schools state semifinals.

The Pilots will play at 2 p.m. Friday in Chesapeake against No. 4 Valley Christian Academy. …

Thomas Morgan’s four goals sparked Peninsula Catholic (8-2-2) past Nansemond-Suffolk Academy 5-2. …

FIELD HOCKEY

Sisters Rachel and Lauren Cheatham scored as Peninsula District-leading Denbigh beat Jamestown 2-0 in a non-league game.

The Patriots, who beat Gloucester in overtime last week, can complete an unbeaten district season Thursday by defeating Menchville.


Claire Hunnicutt scored twice and Rylee Haga once as Kecoughtan (7-2) earned a 3-0 victory over Warwick. …
