Don't sleep on the Crab! How excited and amped will these kids be for Friday's game? Well if you ask me I think they'll be hyper than they'd be if they were facing Phoebus...this is the same team last year that lost to Lake Taylor on a controversial call of "aiding the runner" as Hampton scored what looked like to be the game winning TD. To make matters worse the next week LT did the same thing against Phoebus and no penalty was called. That's motivation enough!

This year's LT team is nothing compared to last year's squad that was lead by Travis Williams, now #41 for The Miami Hurricanes. LT is still a tough and physical team lead by Mike Tyson, great name to go with this kid's toughness.

I had the pleasure of knowing someone on LT's team and got to see them play both Kecoughtan and Churchland. Both LT and Hampton could do hardly nothing on Kecoughtan's defense, but Hampton did A LOT more compared to LT who could do nothing at all and only scored on a safety and INT return. Against Churchland these two teams played two different games...Hampton KILLED Churchland 52-0 and LT lost in a comeback game 44-37.

I know people will say Hampton has lost to LT the past 2 years so what makes this year different...well EXPERIENCE makes it different. Good luck Crabbers!

Hampton 35 LT 14

That score is ridiculous! I will bet my paycheck on Hampton not winning by 8 touchdowns. Lake Taylor isn't Menchville!

This is probably the best or tie for best D-5 match for week 1

I think LTHS can come in this game confident after going 2-0 against HHS for the last 2 years, but HHS Defense held a great PHS offense to 23 pts?Not to mention LTHS doesn't have a passing game right now.

HHS 32 LTHS 17

Well, actually the Crabber D held Phoebus to 24 points IN THE FIRST HALF!

But I like Hampton by 35.

I too think the Crabbers will get a win here.

I also think the Eastern Region changed the playoff format to intentionally deny Hampton or Phoebus a guaranteed first round game at home. Even before the HHS-PHS game on 10/22, the ER knew that by moving all D-5 games to Friday, one of the two Peninsula teams would be forced to play away from home (at Todd). There is no reason why Phoebus can't play at Darling on Friday night, and Hampton play there on Saturday afternoon.

Yet another lame attempt to give the southside teams some advantage in the playoffs, as they certainly will need it! (By the way, I note that Churchland, #6 Seed, already lost this year 45-0 to PHS and 52-0 to HHS)

don't get too worried over the game location. Todd is a home away from home for the Darling teams. Still more of an advantage than playing "over there on the other side of the water"

If the Hampton fans can't drive 15 minutes to Todd then are they really fans? I'll be there yelling and screaming...GO Crabbers!

  :violin: If Hampton would take care of business and get that top seed by winning the District, they would be hosting the regionals at Darling. Not trying to be funny but that's what makes the Hampton/Phoebus regular season game so much bigger. Hampton is very familiar with Todd Stadium. Mike Smith has won his share of State Championships there. Besides, a championship team should be ready to play ANYWHERE!

Yeah I think that the ER was trying to screw the best D-5 program this decade and arguably the most "powerful" coach in the region....... seriously, sometimes you pennisula folk think everyone is out to get you.

Oh, and I will take Hampton by 2 tds (would be more but they might be thrown off playing so far from home)

Believe it or not, and violin-playing smiley faces aside, my point applies to both PHS and HHS. I have offered one downside to the decision by the ER to play all D5 games on Friday. Another is that the switch cost homebound fans of one school to not be able to watch their school's game on TV/internet.

I have offered two reasons why the change by the ER hurts HHS and HHS fans this year (and could hurt PHS or another Hampton school and their fans next year) -- can anyone give me one good reason why the ER made that switch? And my complaint would be the same if HHS had defeated PHS in the regular season -- why should either team have to play the first round on anything but their home field?

And please don't sing the praises of Todd field in the same sentence as the facility at Darling -- in my opinion, compared to Darling, the Todd field by this time in the season looks like a stockyard.

Why does it matter if they play at Todd or Darling? They've played there way more times than LT....matter fact LT has to drive a longer distance now...shouldn't they be complaining?

Not This year! Darling was tore up Friday from the Thur. game. Grass is better @ Darling but the parking is better @ Todd. Tailgating is for Todd. Go HHS CRUSH L.T.

B] As an ex Crabber I can tell you Smiths satisfied with playing at Todd... for one he would much rather have a Friday night game than a Saturday afternoon or night game. To many potential factors can play in to having a Sat game. Players not getting enough sleep. Getting sick that morning..etc.. we had it happen every year in the late 90's.

A little off topic but does anyone know if Hampton still practices at the aprentice field in NN during the playoffs?[/b]

Therein lies one of the rubs for HHS fans about playing at Todd -- I am told no TV as the Hampton Channel will be covering the PHS game at Darling. Maybe that Channel can send a second crew to Todd, record the game, then replay it after the PHS game and throughout the following week.

JB you will see that's never a problem for a Hampton team or a Phoebus team. Both of these schools have outstanding fan support even on the road. I've seen Hampton play away games that look like they were the home team!

Maybe in the playoffs but fan support is far more than the Hampton/Phoebus game. It's definately more than the playoffs. Even Phoebus has mediocre fan support at game during the regular season (at least this year). Trust me I've been to several games this year.

Todd and Darling are home to the PD :)
So it technically will still be considered abit like "Home field advantage" If you look at it the way I am looking at it.

I'll take hampton in this one. Earlier in the year LT offense did not even score a touchdown against the kecoughtan warriors. So unless there defense gets turnovers and score, there not winning. HHS 36-7

For that matter, Gloucester's home to the PD. They'd still have the home field advantage in a beautiful stadium. Of course the $2 toll on the bridge on top of the $5 to get in might not set well with some fans.

L. Taylor plays some alright defense but the offense cannot score enough to keep up with the crabbers... in wont even be close Hampton 35-7

Lake Taylor dont have the same athletes as in years past and plus they give up way to many big plays and have to to many penalties called on them. I have not seen Hampton play but based on what I here and read Hampton should not have a problem with the Titans. One thing though LT did not throw one pass against Norview last week and thats the area they need to practice,so who knows what that was all about unless they were hideing something from the scouts, but my thing is how can you hide something that you never had. Hampton by more than 2 tds

Lake Taylor played a goal line defense for 4 quarters and coach Smith was being stubborn with the play calling, with 9 men in the box he still wanted to run on them where Hampton could have easily open the game up from the start with the passing game. Lake Taylor safety's were used as extra linebackers and smith was going to get his point across. In order for Hampton to be competitive in these playoffs we must play smart and not like we are above getting beat with the defense Lake Taylor ran they shouldn't have been a problem for three quarters, but that goes to show you this why we play the game. It was a good win but hey lets get it together because Norcom is a better team than LT.

Hey! knowing how both coaches work/think mr. Smith worked this like a chess master.LAKE TAYLOR WASN'T REALLY BAD( JUST YOUNG) THIS YEAR BUT, THEY HAVEN'T DONE SQUAT WHEN THE TEMPO OF THE GAME CHANGED ON A SHORT CLOCK!:alien:, PS....not shouting just too lazy to take the all caps down.
