Does anyone else have an issue with there being both a D5 and D6 coach of the year? I mean in D6 they have Gloucester, Menchville, Woodside and who, Kecoughtan. I mean come on. Why isn't is just PD coach of the year? I don't hate alot of things, but I hate that they break up the district voting like that. Yes I know they break it up for playoffs, but w.t.h. Why not just have a D5 1st team and D6 1st team all district player voting then. Maybe it's just me.

Twiceasnice you got a point there. If you going to have a D5 & D6 coach of the year. Do the same thing for the players it's only fair.. I would vote for the Warwick coach over Stan Sexton anyway. I myself can coach that Phoebus team to an undefeated season. I'm more impress how the Warwick coached his team into the playoffs after starting 1-4. To me THAT'S COACH OF THE YEAR MATERIAL!!! But I do believe that after this year Phoebus will be on a decline.

There should be only one coach of the year, unless the voting comes out tied. Then, share the winners as co-coaches of the year. Win they have ties for the District, they are co-champions.

As for the players, they all play each other within their district. Keep the voting like it is, otherwise you're just watering down the selections. Have a first, second and third team all-district selection process.

I agree, but it's the coaches who vote. Personally, I'd do away with divisions all together and just go A, AA and AAA, but that's another thread.

You can't coach us...child please. We wouldn't respect you. Sexton demands our respect and gets it. Sexton will call you out even if you're an all state player. Sexton is the reason we work so hard. Sexton doesn't just sit on the sideline and stand there and let us do what we want. Sexton gives us a personality and is a great father figure when we're around him. Sexton game plans to perfection and puts players in the right positions. The best thing about coach is he doesn't take no **** but he respects his players. So don't look at the results and talent on the field and think you could do it too...if you came to practice we'd be sitting around joking having freestyle battles...Sexton job is NOT easy.

But I do believe that after this year Phoebus will be on a decline.

People said this before the 09 season...15-0. People said that this year....10-0 and counting. Y'all will be in for a pleasant treat next year.

I wouldn't say sorry at all because I know the work my coach puts in to make us successful. Are you Coach Mac or another coach from YH or KK from Woodland? Because if not I don't remember you.

Sexton pushes us to the limit...we won 60-7 over Bethel but Sexton didn't let us forget our personal fouls...most coaches would've forgotten about them after a 53 point win. He keeps us disciplined, motivated, level headed, and focused. You may be a great coach at the rec league level but please don't downplay what Sexton is doing.

I don't take anything away from Coach Sexton, I'm just saying you guys have a good core of players on that team, that I believe many coaches can win with that's all..

As I posed on the all-district thread, here's why there are D5 and D6 coaches of the year:

The Virginia High School Coaches Association sets up the rules for the all-district, all-region and VHSCA all-state voting. And it's the VHSCA that specifies picking coaches for each division.

And, to make all-region, you have to be first-team all-district. And to be first-team all-state, you have to be first-team all-region.

So is there is a logical explanation why the all district/region/state voting isn't broken into divisions as well? I mean it only makes sense, as you mentioned the VHSCA wants a coach of the year for each division, but on the flip side wants to lump all players together regardless of division for the individual accolades. My personal opinion is that all AAA should be lumped together when it comes to individual district awards, state championships, and district coaches of the year. Take the top four teams in each district throughout the region and they make the playoffs, simple as that. Do away with this division garbage, does any other sport do that except football? I don't think so.

Not in Group AAA, but basketball is now broken down into D1, D2, D3 and D4 on the district/region/state level. The AAA schools have been holdouts, thank heaven.

I'm not sure what Virginia Preps does, if Rod or Will sees this, perhaps they can chime in.

I know the Associated Press picks one coach of the year for each of the three groups.

I've seen all the coaches for all the teams this year.... it's hard to argue with Sexton being Coach of the Year in my opinion. However you could easily argue for a couple of other coaches as well. If I could only cast 1 vote it would be for Sexton..... How good is he? Well it's hard to say... with all the talent that they have at Phoebus. Could Sexton do anything with Heritage? I don't think so... Could the Heritage coach have won the district at Phoebus? Yeah, pretty sure he could have. That's the problem with Head coaches, they get all the glory when they win and all the blame when they lose.

I think the Phoebus "Dynasty" or "Program" is much deeper than Coach Sexton it's a whole system from pee wee to high school. They may not run the table every year but as long as the "system" is in place they will be contenders for a very long time. From what I gather they re-load every year and the JV team is loaded from this year.

When Phoebus was beating Bethel last week they had 1/2 a dozen personal fouls and I can tell you Sexton was giving em 'heck on the sidelines and I think that is commendable.

We are in agreeance when it comes to 2010 coach of the year. But when I first realized last year that they award a D5 and D6 coach of the year, I was in shock. Dodson at Woodside was the clear cut PD coach of the year in 2009, and he should have been recognized as such. Not solely D6.
