I am probably like most BRD dad's, after the Pack (or your team) finishes the game, I jump into the car and turn the radio dial to 94.1 FM and listen to the high school scores on the way home. Then when I get home I get ready for the sports coverage on the news channels. Of course the AAA teams are getting most the highlights, Phoebus, Hampton, Ocean Lakes, OS, etc. But usually the BRD gets some coverage, but mostly scores. To the benefit of the reporters covering Poq / Warhill, no one was expecting the upset. But in my opinion you cannot miss some camera coverage of the biggest upset in the BRD in probably the last 10 years. Anyway, I did see York coverage on one channel. I saw Smithfield coverage on channel 3, which was really bad, they showed the Pack QB get sacked, they showed the QB and running back running into each other, they showed the Pack QB getting sacked and they showed JT's only field goal being kicked, no Smithfield highlights, just blunders and then the sports guy said it was a back and forth game. Then I did not see any Laf v Bruton coverage in a big OT game. I know alot of you are feeling the same. It is just high school football, but it is a big part of the boys and fans life. Give the BRD some more help on TV coverage. I know the Poq faithful would rather forget about the game last night, but how do you not get camera coverage of the biggest upset in maybe a decade?

OH, please forgive me if I offend here. I am happy that ODU has a team and is doing well. But why does Fox 43 and Bruce Radar do the Bobby Wilder show right after high school friday night football is finished. That time on 43 should go to High school football, not the ODU show. Show the ODU show at some other time. I know they cant do that show on Sat morning, Wilder is getting ready for a game, but do it on the 5 oclock news or do it Thursday night. I keep scratching my head on this ODU show anyway, they are not a new team anymore, why is this the only local college team to get a show on Fox? What about CNU, W&M, NSU, Hampton, etc?

I have lived in Williamsburg for 17 years, worked in Hampton and the last 11 years in Richmond. I do not even turn on WAVY TV or the others- all V. Beach or Hampton area schools are shown. The BRD is ingnored 90% of the time. To be honest I could care less what happens Southside and never felt a "part" of it or the Hampton area. When they were going to lump us in with the rest of Hampton Roads for that transaportation tax that never happened I protested as this area has little in common with the rest.

Agree on all. Though they can't be seen on TV, you can view some video highlights of BRD games on YouTube via the WY (Williamsburg Yorktown) Daily Video. They can't do it for all games, but they still do a pretty good job and fairly quickly.

thanks 4 the info. I know there is limited time on the air for coverage, that is why i think the Bobby Wilder show could be moved, that could be 15 minutes for local high schools. This mornings (sat) daily press gave Warhill a little coverage on there huge UPSET on page 6, not even a picture along with it. Don't think they did the Lions justice, should of been front page.

I am in total agreement on all counts completely! The thing that disturbs me most is that if you look at the # of posts the BRD posters put up very high numbers especially considering we're second tier to the AAA schgools. You would think that with all the market research crap that they like to defend thier coverage they would realizr that the BRD is something special. Bruce Radar has been stealing a paycheck for 30+ years in my opinion. Thanks to the Daily Press staff and HRVarsity for at least trying to give us some props.

Didn't see TV last night, but very much agree the Bay Rivers deserves more highlight minutes. However, I must honestly say were I making a coverage decision television wise, I would've sent my cameras to Lafayette-Bruton first and foremost. ...disturbing to hear that game got no coverage on the tube.

From a Daily Press standpoint, I'm very pleased our editor assigned a reporter to each game last night, including Warhill-Poquoson. Following the upset, the editor made a (not too difficult) decision to give the upset more space than originally planned. Was happy to see that, too.

I think most agree with the poor tv coverage for the BRD, on most Fridays. I think the DP does a good job, I know you guys probably were not planning a big story for the Poq game, predicting it to be a blowout. But after the upset, I thought it should of moved to front page of sports with a photo or two, being one of the biggest upsets in BRD recent history. How often does Warhill get props, unless they are on the recieving end of a sheeelacking? Even if they go on and win 6 more games this year, there probably will not be another 1 as big as that one, knocking off the state champs. Just an opinion. Again, I think the DP does a nice job with BRD sports.

It's a nice thought about moving to the front page, but logistically it's difficult to blow up the front page of sports at the last minute on Friday night for a game with no photos. There are print deadlines in play there.

As it was, they were able to adjust and give the reporter at the game many more paragraphs than orgininally planned. And of course more space, including front page space I suspect, will be given to that game in the coming days.

thanks for the info. Again, I think you guys do a good job. Not a Warhill fan of course, just want them to get there dues. I guess the front page is preplanned for a Phoebus or Hampton, maybe even a game like Grafton v Poq, the big games of the week. Understand, still a little disappointed for the Lions. Anyway, thanks for the answer. Just one thought, if Phoebus is playing Churchland and the prediction is Phoebus 44 Churchland 3 and they dont plan on this game being front page, but then Churchland pulls it off, for some reason I see it making the front page. just a thought.

Marty, as usual. youre doing a great job. I firmly believe everyone in BRD would have agreed that Laf vs. Bruton wouldve been the place to land the copter.(snicker, snicker. Im sure its batteries wouldnt have stood up to the trip all the way up to Wanner)

You keep up the good work and we'll keep trying to diplomatically poke the bear!!

I have shown it to several people and they all agreed it was great coverage. Keep up the good work.

I totally agree there should be more coverage and better highlights for Smithfield and other BRD teams.
