Bethel will take this seriously after what Heritage did last week.
Bethel 28 Heritage 7

I say this game is closer...Bethel was exposed ...they have no running game...I would prepare my team to defend the pass first...if they have any athletes in the secondary...they will be able to compete in this game.. 28 - 14

If it took yesterday for you to find out Bethel didn't have a running game, that explains your lack of intellegence in your posts. Everyone knew Bethel was going to struggle on the ground and they did. The hope was they could do it through the air and it didn't work out against Phoebus. Heritage is getting better Sexton said it after you guys played them, then they beat Gloucester and get some momentum. Woodside either layed an egg...or Heritage played off of momentum. I think Bethel will be more focused than Wooside was (if that's the reason the game was close) I see Bethel winning much easier than Woodside did. Not to mention it's our homecoming!!! That's worth a few points right there!

Only seen Bethel play once since yesterday... that was against Hampton...I seen some success with the running game against Hampton...that was the only time that I seen Bethel play...and for the Bethel Nation yall put a lot of stock into that game ....so I went along with yall and thinking that your program was well rounded...I hear a lot of people talk about Bethel being the most balanced offense in the league...now I don't know what I'm talking about and don't have a clue...this whole forum thing is twisted....I think people forget what they said or forgot about threads that they participated in..
Perfect example of dang if you do dang if you don't...
1. Yall looked great against Hampton...ran the ball threw the ball all over the place...I seen faults of Hamptons...ie the db's were playing 10 yards off...and Hampton is small on both sides of the ball...but if one made such a comment..then Bethel folks will start screaming stop down playing or give us credit...so I kept my mouth shut about that game...
Now if I would have said Phoebus should beat Bethel because I don't think they will be able to run against Phoebus making Bethel one dimensional...it would have been a argument...even though I would have been making a football minded comment and just stating that Pheobus is more physical on the line...

anyways one thing one thing i've learned from coaching is that some teams force you to lose your identity it happens some teams are just good enough to do that....some teams have it while others don't phoebus is one that have it but heritage is no phoebus thus their 1 win record
bethel 42-7 walk in the park they probably could play this game today after that lose yesterday

Let's be real! Bethel will blow Heritage out...Bethel is angry.
Look for Proctor and Davis to get almost 200 yards receiving a piece. Bethel 56 Heritage 0

maybe they thought they could exploit the seconday. Which they did with the exception of the 2 pick 6 at the line of scrimmage. #27 got raped by proctor and so did #2. Without those 2 pick 6's bethel wins

You didn't watch the game much, did you. Bethel received what most wise men thought was going to happen.......lose.
Bethel exploit Phoebus in the air? You must be kidding. All we heard is how great a QB Bethel had, but lets look at the statistics, they don't lie.
Bethel was 13 of 30, that's 43% with no TD's and 2 interceptions. The QB was never relaxed and rushed many of his throws. I felt sorry for him a few times. He got hit once real hard and when he woke-up, his clothes were out-of-style.
30 times???? Our backs don't have that many carries in two games.
Phoebus was 4 of 11, that's 36% with no TD's and 1 interception. Enderson doesn't pass much, because Phoebus is a run-oriented team.
Bottom-line...........Bethel got the snot beat out of them yesterday because of all that smack you put on the boards for weeks. I saw Coach Sexton reading some of the comments during timeout. Our kids started scattering bodies after they heard that stuff. Man, I saw one player trying to fly after he got hit.:lol::lol::lol:

No homecoming doesn't really give you points, but usually folks dig a little deeper for homecoming, stands are full... alumni are there etc... As a player I went hard every week, but homecoming and "rivalry" games always seemed to be a little added fuel. Nobody wants to lose on homecoming... I'm sure I'm not the only one that feels this way.

Phoebus won the game, but beat the snot out of? common, that's not what folks saw that were there. You scored 14 points on defense... Then you scored one touchdown starting from around the Bethel 25 due to a special teams brain fart. It took several plays to do that and you got to first and goal and it took all 4 downs to get across the line. So for you're big monster running back that was going to average 10 yrds a carry, was well under that average. Bethel made some costly turnovers and it cost them the game, but beat the snot out whatever. Never seen a team get the snot beat out of them and still have more yards than the other team. This is the black eye around the Phantoms, not the players or the coaches they just win. It's the fans that distort the way it went down. Someone posted a several minute video of the game, why don't you watch it and tell us where the "snot beating" came from. See you guys can get on here and talk smack all day, cause you won the game. However folks can see on here in that short video that your secondary is your achilles heel. We had several long distance passes and that's without a running attack and a 4 man rush, you played the pass and still had troubles with it. I personally would have thrown down field more and layed off some of short stuff to the flats especially after you picked the first one. Someone at Phoebus did a great job on game film and they knew what to look for and it showed.

I agree to some degree. I wouldn't use the word achilles heel...but I would agree that the secondary is the weak part of the defense... just because you decide to throw down field more doesn't mean that you complete all those...just like some of the throws that were thrown down field should have been picked...yes 3 of them...but as everyone else noticed...# 9 decided to not be in the game...#2 for Phoebus played bump and run and he never got burnt...he got beat on one play but he was still around the ball..if you noticed in the second half...#2 went to the staff and asked to cover the best receiver on the field...he played a bump and run style the whole game...thats when the first pick came...#5 and #7 were snatching balls out of the air..making big time plays..but they did have db's around them when they made the plays..which made it even more spectacular...
One key note......one of the reason why Phoebus had problems in the secondary early on is because #11 was playing DB the first few games which is totally out of his position...he's a natural outside LB...and thats where he played for the first time...and it came up big...because he got a pick 6 as well..

Cmon man I really want to move on from the game but you gotta admit this is a ridiculous statement. How can you say without the 2 pick 6 Bethel wins the game? Like you have no valid points to help your argument...it's plain nonsense. Your last touchdown was scored with 9 seconds left in the game with the score at 28-7...cut the nonsense out. And yall WRs did play exceptionally well but in reality they had 3 big plays with Proctor's athletic catch over the middle, Proctor catch all over Summers, and Davis leaping catch where he jumped so high. The passing game was effective but it wasn't as effective as it was in the first 4 games...no arguing that. Both defenses played great yesterday but our defense played a little better...just please stop trying to sugarcoat a loss. Yall are a good team but you have to admit 13-30 for 175 yards and 2 Pick 6's are not good numbers. Phoebus did their job yesterday with Bethel's offense.

Dynasty be real 167 yards on 40+ carries isn't doing much on offense either. You took advantage of a botched field goal and scored and then you had one sustained drive and that was it.... so don't sugar coat your win either. Ya'll won the game, but I've heard that Bethel got "beat like a drum stick" "Beat down" "Destroyed" anyone that was there, and if they watch the video posted here they will see two different but evenly matched teams. Turnovers are a part of the game and we made them and ya'll didn't make any big ones..... The one turnover you had was also and INT but it was in the middle of the field. This game, Won by Phoebus, was anything but a beat down.

Ill give phoebus the kick return blunder and the score...without the 2 pick 6's the score is IMO 13-7 bethel...but here is the thing. Bethel controlled the game phoebus couldn't get tarted on offense at all...the pick 6's broke the back of bethel....without those bethel battles to a win. then again if the kickoff blunder never happens phoebus doesn't score...as for scoring in the last second...it is still a score..and would have been the score needed to win the game..

Bethel still has 3 tough teams left, Warwick, Kecoughtan and Woodside. They have to forget about the Phoebus game and play within themselves the rest of the way. If they win out, 9-1 will get them in. If they lose 1 more 8-2 should be good enough but 7-3 is going to be tough, and 6-4 they can forget it. All of the remaining games are winnable, I don't know what happened to Woodside but I'm sure it was similar to what happened to us last year at Gloucester.... a mixture of over confidence and the opponent playing above themselves.
Noone from Woodside has had much to say, don't blame them either.

I'm not one of the people up here saying we beat yall like a drum stick  I'm giving Bethel their props but it's hard when I have to come up here and read a person basically saying the only reason we won was because of the pick 6's and if you take them away we lose. I just want people to keep it real and move on...Bethel played a great game but Phoebus was just the better team.

You are delusional my man! Seriously...Bethel only had one drive when the game mattered. You don't realize how loose we played on that last drive, because we knew the game was over. Bethel did not control the game  No clue why yall want to act like Brown's numbers were any good 13/30 with 2 INT's are bad numbers...let's not make things up

I'll agree to that, Phoebus was the better team because better teams win.... The pick 6's aren't the reason Bethel lost, but the first happened when it was 0-0 and the second happened when it was 7-7. It took some wind out of their sails. No matter if they were pick 6's, fumbles or blown routes... They were mistakes by Bethel and Phoebus didn't make them, so they won. It really boils down to the mental game and Phoebus was more "Mentally ready". It's all good hopefully Bethel matures from it and gets better. Last year they collapsed when Hampton beat the daylights out of us and lost 4 out of the last 5 games.... I don't think we will collapse this year, I think after saturday they will realize they went toe to toe with one of the top teams in the country and just fell short. That's what I'm hoping for anyway!

Please..........give me a break. Phoebus was/is the better team.
The problem with you, is the fact that you can't accept a loss to a much better team. "Phoebus made some plays off of Betel mistakes".???? The interceptions came off of Betel's offensive scheme. I watched Phoebus practice those sets during the week. Sounds like Bethel got out-coached.
Betel is a very good second place team. 13 for 30........Joe Air caught 17 passes for 0 yards.

I remember in 2009 when Phoebus came from down 14-0 to beat Bethel 17-14 the talk was that "when Bethel sees Phoebus in the playoffs they're going to win"...they got their chance and lost 34-6. Phoebus is the better overall team and proved it Saturday. Just focus on the rest of your season and not a team that yall can't play again in the playoffs. We get it you really thought Bethel was going to win and are having a rough time accepting the fact that they didn't, but you just have to move on. I know Bethel players have and are focused on Heritage now with Warwick, Kecoughtan, and Woodside in the back of their mind. We shook hands after the game and Bethel has our respect for rebounding after a disappointing season last year and becoming a great opponent. All I have to say is WATCH OUT FOR THEM BRUINS in the ER D6 playoffs! With preseason region favorite Bayside with 3 losses already who knows what's going to happen. After scrimmaging Smith and playing Bethel I can tell you that if those teams meet up we might be talking about Bethel representing the ER in the state playoffs! Game of the year in the PD in my opinion is now Bethel vs Woodside...so many playoff indications...if both teams come in at 8-1 it will be a dogfight to get a home playoff game.
Respect to Proctor and Davis! And even more respect to Brown for putting in work and becoming a better player this year! Hardwork pays off and my man you definitely busted your *** to get better and it shows.

That's a possibility although alot of football is left to be played. However that would be something to think of. I have to disagree to an extent. I've seen plenty from Bethel and Woodside this year. I believe either team has a legitimate shot to get out of this region. I don't think no particular D6 teams has really stood out as overwhelming favorites in the ER. Smith is tough but still are not as dominant as years past. There will be parity in both the D5 and D6 playoffs this year.

i said bethel and phoebus will be state champs in 2011
I'd be very surprised if that were true and I'm a Phoebus fan. I haven't seen the level of play from Phoebus that matches the recent state championship teams. If any other team in the state that's played them close got better..I see them falling. I know less about D6, but would assume there's some tough teams other than OS that I'm thinking would take them down.
PD fan to the most, and definitely hope it happens though!

Now that Phoebus has beaten Bethel I hope they win out and win another state championship but I'm glad others have noticed what I've been saying and that is Phoebus will have to work really hard to do it. I don't think they have the same talent level as they had in the past. Good enough to fight and probably win the District and maybe Region. If they win State it will really be a good indication of just how good the coaching staff is.
Bethel has gotten much better but comparing them to Phoebus show's the still have work to do. I really think 2 and it looks like a third this year undefeated JV teams shows a shift over to Big Bethel Rd. Success at JV doesn't always mean success at Varsity but it shows a positive future.
I think Heritage is also headed in that direction too! Hope for a good game on Friday. Blowouts may look better in the paper and give people trash talk rights, but close games actually help teams get ready for playoffs and are better for the district.

Think I'm going to go to the Oscar Smith Grassfield game...I talked to someone that said if Oscar Smith plays someone that is big up front they will stand a chance of losing...Grassfield is very big..and they are 4-0 5-0 one of them...if Grassfield keep picking up steam..they might beat OS...it would be an upset in my eyes...and I can see any PD team beating Grassfield...it's going to be interesting..

Vergil if they had a big bruising running back to mix in with the passing game I'd pencil them in to the state championship. Teams are going to start rushing 2 people and dropping everyone back to stop the passing game. I wish Cogdell/Bellamy or Pittman would take a sudden interest in nursing! C. Davis is doing the job though and the passing game is going to force teams to spread out the defenses some.

Well to be honest...Bethel can use the small back to their advantage..if they use some traps and misdirections....it's hard to pick up a small back out of the backfield when you run those kind of plays...but you can't play smash mouth with a small back without a lead block or some misdirection trap plays...Rodney Howard not sure how far back you go back with Bethel...but Rodney Howard was the smallest back in the PD and rushed for 2000 yds...Mike Stefanko from Hampton rushed for a lot of yards as well...I thought Phoebus would have problems facing him...but they didn't run him that much..if people start just rushing 2 - 3 people that plays into your hand...that mean the QB gets a lot of time to throw the ball..you don't want that facing a Bethel team...you spell disaster that way...

like vergil said you need a lead blocker i'm suprised bethel didn't fumble more on Sat. they were sending LB's in the gaps and smacking that RB i honestly think that the back they have is fine even playing the offense they are playing and you can't pencil in bethel in for any championship until their OC become a better play caller first he needs to go to the booth and not be on the field b/c he struggles reading coverage i.e. in the phoebus game ...phoebus played with their LB's up most of the game they applied pressure to Bethel passing attack and did an excellent job of it but if bethel had a good OC they would have attack the middle of the field more it was open instead bethel attack the side lines and the outside phoebus has too much strength on their D-Line and LB to allow much time but if they had a OC who could call a good game they would have done more to drop those LB's back allowing more running lanes for the back also if your not running a no huddle offense then why are you taking so much time to get the play in

I'm not blaming the the OC for Saturday. Would I have done somethings a little different? Yes, but it's easy to sit in the stands and call the plays. If Phoebus doesn't intercept those 2 passes and the botched kick off doesn't happen and Bethel wins then this discussion doesn't happen. Up until the Phoebus game folks were saying that Bethel was the most balanced offense. Now they lose to a team with a 50 game winning streak (Longest in the nation) and defending back to back to back state champions and the OC is getting thrown under the bus... Over 1000 yards in the first 4 games, something is working with the spread.
Im a power run up the middle and smash 'em type person and that's the way I would coach.... but if they don't have the team to do it then you have to adjust. I think they are doing the best type of offense for that program.

when Phoebus started running man to man..they should have started doing some crossing routes and hard slants to the middle of the field since the safety decided to take a nap that game..

I agree somewhat...they can still pass alot...but use another style of offense...put the QB under the center some...and when the pass rush get up field to much run the QB .....that spread offense is to finicky. Bethel has a good coach...he just have to get over the edge..what seperate good coaches from great coaches...is the half time and in game adjustments...Took Coach Dee a while to be able to make adjustments during the game..ie all the failed attempts to beat Hampton From 1986 until hmmmm 2000 minus one slip up in between..

If all that doesn't happen, Bethel wins? No Bethel wasn't going to win that game. You will not see any "what ifs" from me. We all saw the game and what both teams did or didn't do.
Phoebus had the better defense period.

Don't worry Duece... he's not going to listen.
The only difference between the defenses was the turnovers. Bethel's defense did just as well as Phoebus's defense.... except you got a couple more turnovers but you said take the turnovers away and Phoebus's defense was still better? How do you figure that?

I hate to be the one to tell but the turnovers were enough to separate the two defenses. Both defenses played well but the reason Phoebus' was better was because their defense made game changing plays while Bethel's didn't. They were both tough but Phoebus was more opportunistic with theirs. You must also take into consideration two things: Bethel's offense was supposed to be way more explosive than the Phantoms and could've easily lost the game at 28-7, and the second thing is the coaching job Phoebus did on defense. The Phoebus coaches made some great calls on those two plays and throughout the game. Now can we move on to Heritage vs Bethel?

Truth be told i don't care what he did in previous games thats great but i coach football too maybe not on the high school level but none the less i coach i'm also a OC and as a coach you only think about the game at hand not the past and i'm sorry i see that this bethel team has the talent to hang with phoebus but this is a team game and coaches are included when you say team b/c they call the plays fact is Bethel coaches got flat out beat i'm not throwing the OC under the bus but that type of play calling don't win state championships if you saw that game then you tell me where did bethel offense adjust after half time ...? why didn't they screen the RB or better yet sneak him out of the back field there was no one on phoebus who covered him their LB were pass rushing 90% of the game they rarely dropped back they pinned their ears back and came after frank brown the entire game bethel passed it once over the middle on a 3rd down play which #80 dropped but on that pass he was so open he woulda got at least 10 yrds after the catch nothing underneath it was intermediate and long passes most of the game this would've been a great check down game instead bethel never adjusted staying true to what ever game plan they had and it failed them and yes INT's are apart of the game phoebus made the plays and won the game their coaches adjusted bethel's didn't thus making them the better team ...maybe talent for talent they are equal but when you add in coaches bethel has some catching up to do this year as for that JV talk and how they dominate ...that's great maybe those coaches should coach varsity

Phoebus' defense did something Bethel didn't do, and they have been doing it all year. They score off points.

Bethel 7
Heritage 6 halftime..
Does is Bethel bad now or is Heritage able contend with "top" teams. In a rematch do they now destroy Hampton because how one team plays another team determines everything..
I hope Heritage's defeatism settles back in by the time they play Kecoughtan lol

Bethel hasn't look sharp the last 3 weeks... they have had too many turnovers.. they fumbled on the first 2 snaps tonight. Bethel had Brown going under center and it wasn't working. Heritage was able to move the ball and work the clock the running back Abdullah (sp) is a very good back. So far he's the best running back we've faced played so far this year. He gave us more trouble than anyone else and that's with a so-so offensive line. Those old hampton coaches will have that program turned around and dont' wait till next year they will get some wins this year....

So Brown went under center against Heritage, but not against Phoebus when it made sense to take him out of shotgun?! I don't understand that at all. And let's be honest Bethel looked as sharp as they could against Phoebus.
