1. The FG protection should have much better. There is no way two kicks should be blocked.
2. Can anyone explain how WIlliams scored the last TD to win the game?
3. What has happened to our passing game?
4. What is with the Fumbling of the Snap?

Phoebus is still an excellent team, but the answer to the first three are: coaching

I agree with CoachA10....it wasn't about the protection...it was all about letting a injured player kick a game winning field goal when he hasn't kicked in who knows win...he was kicking the ball low..that happened on both attempts...as evident when we put the other kicker in to kick in OT...we should have had the back up kicker kicking the field goal at the end of the game..and we go home 10 - 7...but not once but twice we tried to kick it...and it goes beyond that...we march or better yet we drive the ball down there throats 90 + yards with Pittman...it's 1st and goal...and we spike the ball now it's second and goal...then # 5 doesn't even get another attempt...cmon man..phoebus lost this game 3 times....I'm not a bad sport...but Hampton didn't win this game...Phoebus coach lost this game when he decided to kick a field goal with an injured player...Merry Christmas Hampton High....hope we meet again...

im sorry to tell you, but Hampton won this game, OT has no excuses ... Bad tackling on a QB draw, Williams runs the TD in .. end of story.. There was no gift in overtime...
back up kicker ends this game? yes.. OT gift? no excuse

Hampton has finally gotten the monkey off their back, field conditions and the wind played a big factor in this game my hat goes off to the phoebus defense who played a good game they pretty much bottled up Hampton's running backs, but tonight's win belonged to the Crabbers @ Vergil stop making excuses a loss is a loss except it.....

Did Phoebus not make the playoffs? They do have a game next week don't they. So how are they finished? Phoebus is very capable of winning this region even as 3 seed. I can definitely understand Vergil's frustration this time(god knows I can), but at the end of the day it's no need to throw blame or excuses because I'm sure we all saw what happened that were at the game. Smh, on that note, congrats Hampton on becoming the #1 seed. Good luck Crabbers against Green Run next week. Hopefully we'll see you guys again in a few weeks. Next up Warwick, again.

As one of the Hampton coaches said to a Phoebus coach, "Thanks for the win". Hampton couldn't stop the best running back in the Peninsula District. When the ball was at the 1-yard line. Pittman should have gotten the ball............game over.
Pittman started at the Phoebus 8-yard line and carries Phoebus to the four. Two penalties the ball is on the one. Early Christmas present. Ask the Hampton Alumni that were at the game and in downtown Phoebus who watched the game on TV. They couldn't believe what they witnessed.

My God! Two whole losses in one year! Just four more years like this and Coach Sexton will have double-digit losses for his career at PHS. The horror!

You know, I can actually understand where you're coming from, but unfortunately this is sports. It comes with the territory as a head coach. He's going to be praised during the winning times and he's going to be the blame for the losses. Do I think one loss makes the Phantom coaching staff incompetent? Absolutely not! I have defended the Phoebus coaching on numerous occasions and many on here will attest to that, however I left the Phoebus/Hampton game completely puzzled last night and that's putting it very mildly. I don't know how many times I have to keep repeating myself, I LOVE MY PHANTOMS, coaches, players, band, and all but I am a sports fan first. I truly felt the Phoebus offensive line deserved and earned those final two yards to finish that last regulation drive off. Had the Crabber defense stopped them twice from two yards out in those remaining seconds, I could live with that, but to not give the O-line and Pittman an opportunity was a tough pill to swallow. Afterwards, I feel Coach Sexton did the only thing he really could do and that was shoulder the responsibility and that to me shows maturity as a coach. Personally, I just feel Phoebus just needs to chalk this up, learn from it, and prepare for Warwick next week.

Last year in the regional final game on 4th down Smith goes for it instead of kicking the field goal, Phoebus stuffs the play and then drives down the field to win the game, now many people blamed the coaching staff for that loss, but Smitty has proven himself time and time again just like Sexton. Since he has taken over his record is 38-2 not bad, go ask one of the lower tier teams in the district would they take him or Smith as there coach, I bet you their answer would be yes. Coaches make questionable decision just like any other human being. Phoebus and Hampton can't win every game, district title, or state championship but they both have two of the best coaches in Va.

I totally agree with most of what you're saying except the only difference to me is, Smith gave his offense a chance last year (on 4th down) and they got stuffed. I'm sure many can live with that much better than not given the chance to close out the game (that would've been a pretty long fg for Hampton too btw). However, Phoebus didn't get stuffed because they didn't get the opportunity ON THIRD DOWN FROM THE TWO with one timeout left. I truly felt that Phantom offensive line's chances were taken away from them. Everything was wrong about that decision to kick. Eric Enderson should not have even been kicking first of all.

BOTTOM LINE and I hope we can move on after this. The only logical thing was to RUN THE BALL TWICE from the two with a timeout left. If Hampton stopped it, great job Crabber D, if Phoebus scores, it would've been a classic finish. Now, we need to just move on because nothing anyone can do or say changes what happenend.

Someone help me remember the last 30 seconds of play. I was thinking Phoebus called their last timeout after 2nd down. Leaving 3rd and goal from the 2 with 13 seconds remaining and no timeouts.

I disagree totally the logical thing is to kick the field goal because on the play before the running lost a yard. Kick the field goal and go home with the win. Also Phoebus fumbled four times last nite ( which they recovered all four) kick the field goal........

Naw, Enderson spiked the ball on first down. Pittman ran it to the two on 2nd down and then Phoebus called their second timeout on 3rd down.

I thought Pittman ran the ball to the 2 on the play before. You can go back and check dave Johnson's live updates. Phoebus' O line had Hampton on their heels that last drive all the way to the 2. If you don't believe it, then I can only assume that you weren't at that game.

I agree with kicking...but not with someone that doesn't or haven't kicked and shouldn't have even been dressed out to play. You use the back-up kicker to kick the field goal...but I'd rather just ran the ball on 3rd and 4th...but to recap the last few seconds...it was first and goal with 22 seconds 1 time out left....with the clock stopped after the first down....phoebus first mistake was clocking the ball on first down after the clock had already been stopped ( they should have ran a play)....the second mistake was after running it on 2nd down it was 13 seconds left Phoebus tried to kick the field goal on third down...it got blocked or better yet the first field goal was kicked very low...because of the kickers injury...however Hampton jumped off size so we lined up and tried to kick it again...it was blocked

Here's the way I had it, starting with Pittman's 5-yard run to set up first-and-goal from the 5.
1-G-5: Enderson spike, :22.
2-G-5: Pittman 3 yard gain, timeout Phoebus (its last) at :13.
3-G-2. Enderson 20-yard FG blocked, but PENALTY ... Hampton offsides.
3-G-2. Endeson 20-yard FG blocked.
Phoebus called its first timeout of the second half just before its touchdown. It was fourth-and-goal from the 9, and Kremp had come on for a field goal. However, there was no holder, so Phoebus had to burn a timeout. After the timeout, Sexton sent the offense back and they scored.
The second timeout was called with 30 seconds left after Pittman ran 8 yards to the 10. Then the third at :13.

In a situation where you know you're going to kick the FG it's not unusual to kick on 3rd down. The idea is if there's a problem with the snap or hold you just pull it down, take the lost yardage, then kick it again on 4th down.

Well, if that's the case we should've used the healthier backup kicker in that situation.

I think a lot of people were under the impression that Phoebus still had a timeout remaining when they kicked the FG...this was not the case. Had Phoebus ran the ball on 3rd down and not scored that would have been the end of the game and denied Phoebus a FG attempt.

I wasn't at the game. From what I've heard here kicking on 3rd down was the only option. I was basing what I said on the idea that they still had a TO left.
Anyway, second guessing is easy. If Enderson had made the kick it would have been great coaching.

Agreed. Like all coaches, Sexton knows far more about his personnel than I ever could. But second-guessing is part of the game. In fact, Sexton second-guessed himself afterward.
As for the timeouts, the confusion is because the scoreboard still showed Phoebus with one timeout remaining. But that was incorrect. Having to blow a timeout earlier when there was no holder on the field was costly.

Bad games... it's only bad when you're not on top winning 50+ games in a row.... Last year was bad games, Phoebus was killing everyone but I'm sure that wasn't bad in your eyes. Now that Phoebus didn't clean everyone's clock it's a bad year? Nah, I think the PD is a much better district now with the parity. This year there was a bunch of hype around several games instead of just Phoebus/Hampton. That's because usually one of them is the best team in the district, this year neither one of them was the best. I didn't think the Bethel/Woodside game was a bad game. True Bethel fell apart late but it was tied and close most of the game. The better team won but a bad game? Not for a real football fan.

They were bad games as well..thats why I didn't go to Phoebus vs Denbigh, Phoebus vs Heritage I didn't go to Phoebus vs Gloucesture I went to Hampton vs Warwick that night thinking I was going to see a good football game..I went to another game the same night Phoebus played Heritage as well...I'm all about seeing a good game..
