With interviews set to begin in a few weeks anyone have some suggestions as to whom they should consider/hire? I have no clue if he's interested but I think the JV coach from Bethel would be a good fit. He does hard nose, basic football and he (Bethel JV) hasn't lost a game in over 3 years. I think he could put Kecoughtan back in the upper part of the PD pretty quickly.
Ive heard Narvid's name brought up several times in other conversations as well, not sure if there is any truth to it.
What/who do you guys think?

I'd like to see Narvid or the Offensive Co. for Phoebus. I don't think the Bethel JV coach would be a good fit. There are better options out there.

If they have any sense they'll hire Alonzo Coley, Phoebus's OC.

Fire the AD first then hire a new coach.

Nah, leave all of Phoebus' coaches alone! If anything bring back Narvid home and let's roll!!!!
(Now I only say that NOT to stop coaches from prospering, but to keep what we have and have worked HARD for in place :). I'd NEVER want to stop someone from pressing on to their own personal higher goals. But I'm sure there are more out there than Phoebus guys... :D)

What's KHS AD have to do with the football team?
I think their AD does a great job!

How many coaches have their basketball and football teams gone through in the last 5 years?

Lee has had 2 Football coaches, 2 Men's Bball coaches, and 2 Women's BBall coaches.
The first men's and women's bball coaches resigned.

It's a difficult thing to understand, because if they are going through that many coaches then either they have unfair expectations of their coaches or they have no clue on what they are looking for in interviews.... If they can't hire the right person they need to look at their hiring procedures. When a program is going through that many coaches it should raise some red flags. If it was a couple of coaches in one sport then maybe there could be a good reason but 6 coaches in multiple sports is a bit much.

It should be understood that the role of a high school athletic director in no way like that of a college athletic director. They do not hire and fire. They can be part of the process, but the prinicpal and school board are the ultimate authorities.

And their replacements:
Boys: Ivan Thomas, who won a state championship at T.C. Williams and has a team this year that is the PD favorite and arguably the best, or one of the best, teams in the region.
Girls: Kevin Williams. He coached Walsingham Academy to a slew of state private school championships. In his first year at Kecoughtan, his team made the regional tournament for the first time since 1981 and, as the fourth seed from the PD, came within a minute of upsetting Southeastern District champ Western Branch in the regional. And that was with 5 sophomores in the starting lineup.

Really? As an avid Kecoughtan supporter and fan of many of their sports - lets really see what you are saying here. First men's BB coach resigned and went to ODU. He was replaced with Coach Thomas - I think his record speaks for itself. Under the first girl's BB coach - they had a POOR program - could not even FIELD A JV TEAM. Correct me if I am wrong - but first time that has ever happened. Now they have Coach Williams - who went to Regional his first year (first time since 1991) and has a JV program that is now arguably one of the best.
Now - on to football. They replaced the football coach with Coach Woodlief - who had a winning record this year (first time in 6 years). Sometimes decisions are not all about wins/losses......
This past year Cross Country, Softball, Baseball, Boys and Girls Basketball, Boys and Girls Swimming, Cheerleading, Golf, and Boys Soccer all went to Regionals.
Thanks Dave for pointing out the the AD does not hire and fire - good information to have. However, I think Kecoughtan's coaching record stands on it's own - their teams excel on and off the field/court. Not sure you can ask for more than that.
Now - wasn't the thread about ideas for a good fit for Kecoughtan coach :focus:

Great post and right on target. The principal is the one that request a change, and at times the school board says there will be a change.

The principal is brand new to Kecoughtan, he may have "officially" done the firing but I doubt a new principal comes in and fires a 6-4 coach (first winning season in a while) without pressure from someone or somewhere else.

Is anyone arguing that Woodleif should still be the coach at KHS? He didn't have a great season on the field and I can guarantee there were some personality clashes, whether it was with admin, players, or parents, there had to be some discord.

Oh no doubt there was some "issues" I was at several games (Kecoughtan v/s Phoebus) and he was using "TERRIBLE" language I could hear verbatium and I was sitting on Kecoughtans side near the top. Against Bethel I could hear even more "PROFANE" language and I was sitting clear on the other side of the stadium. Now he's not the only coach that has "that" issue but his was pretty bad. Again, they work for the school and represent their schools so this definately should have been addressed by the principal and maybe it just didn't work. I just think the firing was for "other" reasons besides his coaching. He was 6-4 in the "great" PD district they beat a good Bethel team, they lost close games to Woodside, Phoebus, Hampton and Warwick.... now they didn't have a good year? Balony.

I want to add on to your comment..I think you hit it on the head (Language)...I was at the Kecoughtan vs Woodside game...a game in which the kids played their hearts out and he to me lost the game with his play calling...after the game in the endzone where most coaches address their team. I'm standing there talking to some friends and parents...and you could hear him blasting his team with all kinds of words...as we were talking, 2 of the principles that were at the game heard us talking about how the coach was blasting his team as if they were strangers in the night..it brought about raised eyebrows from the principles..and it wasn't a good look on there face..it almost appeared to me that this was definitely going to be address that night at the school or surely first thing Monday morning.
