Jamestown basketball player Pierre Brown has signed with Mount St. Mary’s and will receive a full scholarship, according to Eagles coach Lee Underwood.
Brown, a 6-foot-5 forward, had committed to non-scholarship division III Virginia Wesleyan but made a change after Division I Mount St. Mary’s coach Milan Brown, a former Kecoughtan High player, found a scholarship for him.
Mount St. Mary’s went 11-20 overall, 9-9 in the Northeast Conference, last season.
“I thnk it’s a good fit for him because of the conference they play in,” Underwood said. “They play up-tempo and there are a lot of mid-sized players. There aren’t a lot of big players in that conference. So I think Pierre will fit right in as a wing player.”
Brown played in Atlanta before transferring to Jamestown prior to his senior season. He averaged 18.1 points and nine rebounds to lead the Eagles to the Bay Rivers regular season and tournament titles, and was chosen district Player of the Year as well as first team all-Region I and second team all-state Group AA.
Woodside’s Shawn Atupem signed with Mount St. Mary’s in the fall.
