Warhill to face Poquoson in opener

The new Warhill High will play its first football game against Poquoson on Sept. 7, according to the schedules released by the Virginia High School League on Wednesday.

The Bay Rivers' three returning playoff representatives will have very different opening games.

Smithfield will open against Surry County, usually a strong Division 1 team, on Aug. 31.

Lafayette will open against Courtland, a Division 4 team, on Aug. 31.

Southampton will open against Tabb on Sept. 7.

That's going to be a fun trip down there. I don't know if it's Williamsburg but Poqouson doesn't like Jamestown that much.

Poquoson hates everybody. Poquoson doesnt even get along with themselves seeing how people come on here and argue about youth teams.

LOL good point about the youth team arguing. Oh well, its always kind of hostile everytime we go down there. I'm just glad Poquoson's coming to us for our first game.

A new field has been put in at War Hill. Not sure if it replaces Cooley, is used in conjunction with Cooley, is only for War Hill or what. Based on what has been posted in different places here it seems as if all three teams are going to use the new field.

What others have said about the new field is correct. It will be used for all varsity sports. It is a NICE field BTW with turf grass. I'm not sure in what capacity Cooley will be used, though I have heard that the middle school teams (JBMS and Berkley) and possibly JV will continue to use it.
