tournament is wide open. obviously Denbigh has the depth of starting pitching, No one wants to play NN 25 with their ACE on the mound, Poquoson is loaded with college and high school players that have playoff experience. Same for Yorktown. IT is wide open~!

Finally I had to register on this site to comment- I have been reading this
site for months and now I will defend the comment from thatballplayer about
Post 31- They came in 2nd and at one point were in 1st place, and for someone
to say they don't know how then it's time for you to come to a game and watch!
All these teams are very competitive and any one can win, yes there are the
favorites and Post 31 is never mentioned but don't count them out, 9 innings
in under 2 hours says alot and during regular season have beaten the "so called
top teams". So anything can happen on any given day!! Lets just hope for good
weather so the tournment can finish in time.......

The person who made the rule change at the last minute Tues. should be FIRED from his position. American Legion has made a bad decision to allow rules to be changed at the last minute. I'm sure it was to show favortism to a certain team. The coaches & AD's of the teams who lost should protest the changes. There is plenty of time to complete the Tournament and give all the teams a fair chance to compete. once again the adults have spoiled the kids chances for a fair game. American legion should have their officers repeat the same PLEDGE they require the players to before each game.:fencing:

Well, R. Watkins has thrown the first 2 games of the legion tournament (at least partially). What are the chances he throws at least half of the championship game? I'm sure his pitching coach at ODU wouldn't be too thrilled seeing how much he is getting over used. How does his arm hold up?
Should be a good game between NN & Poq though. Best of luck to both teams.

Fair or not, the coaches and ADs knew this was a possibility before the tournament began. It is in the Legion guidelines. Single elimination may not be fair, but it is fairer than the 1 seed getting the automatic berth because of rain.

You must be from menchville..........
No coach or ad would agree that one rain day would justify the change.
The winner needs to be at STATES on Monday. 6 days from now. There is always a day or two to play with in tournaments.Clearly the change was made to from someone who needs to be replaced of his POWER . The advantage clearly goes to Menchville. Why would any coach give up home field advantage in a tournament?
Just another JOKE.
Poquoson got lucky, Menchville got the the only break that could give them the Tournament.

What i didnt like was that they CANCELLED the games allready. Then, said to go back on around 4pm.
Thats a joke because what if players didnt answer their phones, an i kno some players were evn on way to the beach once word got out to them the ames were cancelled.
and ur wrong, id rather woulda saw the games canclled an #1 seed go to states, y wouldnt u. Its obvious that DHS had a bad game, but by far are a wayyy better team than all the rest, which if it was 2-elimination, tey coulda fought their way back like Newport News did last year.
But since it got cancelled, the Champ. game was going to be the top 2 seeds for a winner take all. and thats the way it shoulda stayed.
The Hampton coaches are dumb for falling into NN trap of letting them play at thier little league field, rather than Hamptons home field in the first place.
HELLO!?!? DUH! Id rather play 1 game, an win an go to states, rather than watch DHS have a bad night, an pretty much let NN take the trophy tommorw.
And that will happen cause Poq. has no other pitching left to throw thats good enuf to beat any team.

poquoson might not have all of their pitchers available but we
def have some pitching left
and really poquoson should have beaten post 25 before
the first game was close and the second game they didnt have all of their players
and for a team that has almost lost half of its players they are doing good
i would like to see any other team go out there and play with 9-10 players a game and compete.
WE didnt beat denbigh because denbigh had a bad game, we beat denbigh because we outplayed them. they threw all of their aces and we hit all of them pretty hard.

Post 273 deserved to win this game. They flat outplayed 368. They hit the ball well and their pitcher, Baker, threw one heck of a game. 368 played like they didn't want it and they got what they deserved___ a loss. I think 273 has a very good chance against 25, if they play them like they did 368. This BRD vs Peninsula dist is for little league minded fans. Both districts have very good players and if you know its pretty easy to see.

Very true. Both teams have massive amounts of talent and it was just obvious that 273 wanted that game more than 368. 368 came out flat, and from the first pitch of the game on, they were beat.
And I could be wrong, but I dont think 25 has much pitching left either. Watkins has thrown in both district tournament games so obviously they don't have much confidence in whoever else they can put on the hill. If poquoson gets to them early they will be the champs, in my opinion. If they let them hang around, 25 will bring in watkins to close the door. Best of luck.

Just asking, but how many cities/areas can Poquoson Legion pull from? Is it not Tabb and Poquoson? Both areas had very strong varisty teams in the spring, did they not? Is Post 25 the only post that pulls college freshman to play on it's Legion team? Are there not any other teams that will play at state that will have college freshman on them? Sounds to me like the rules are put in place to allow these young adults to come back and play one more year and Post 25 did the right thing. Reminds me a lot of the BIB Tourney for 11/12 year olds where Billy A. can pull kids from York/Poquoson/Hampton/Gloucester for his Diamonds team....a no brainer for a pool of talent...

Tell me....what did you think of MHS NOT having a Junior legion team this year?
The fact that there were two complete fall teams last year....YEt no Junior legion team....so how much talent development did MHS do for upcoming years?
Instead of working with the Legion program (Sr and Jr)...they decided to bring back 4 (out of 18 total) college kids to beat up on every other legion team (I know of not one with a college player)... that is great....and WLL did well in Junior and Sr LL....but if you were to go a see other high school programs especially across the river...you would be embarrased and angry at the MHS folks...even Yorktown's Junior legion team is playing in the State tourney...that's developing talent for the future....MHS doesn't give a whit about that apparently....unless you think one upcoming freshman on the Sr team (what a message that sends) somehow will lead MHS to the promised land....while all the upcoming Jr's and Sophs (and a couple of rising seniors from the varsity last year) get thrown under the bus. Now that Carter is going to play at MHS....the coaches will just keep on doing it the way they want...to promote a handful of kids at the expense of others....go see some other programs....truly year round....and that is why the PD gets its teeth kicked in during the regionals and states
WHy do you think they didn't have a junior legion team....well the word from the coaches is funding...B.S. one guy offered to pay for it all....and they decided this in February......you don't think parents would've paid money to have a team...when they had until June to get some money....There is more going on here than you want to know....and even though I know you have a close relationship with the MHS bball coaches...you have know idea of how they will throw your boy under the bus....know matter how many pizza's you sell...
Just ask Kenny williams and Mr. Liberta? They had him "removed" from his position in the Legion...why do you think his son moved to play at Denbigh's legion
Ask your buddy Howard about Junior legion...and then I'll tell you the truth

You can't because you are two games shy of earning it.
You should be very thankful you were handed the Tournament by your friend who changed rules because of only one rain day. good job of taking the handout. Rest up over the next 5 days before the games get tough. Hold your heads up when the scores don't go your way. Just remember you are just alittle shy of being the true CHAMPS.

Just ask Kenny williams and Mr. Liberta? They had him "removed" from his position in the Legion...why do you think his son moved to play at Denbigh's legion
Ask your buddy Howard about Junior legion...and then I'll tell you the truth
1. My son did not want to play legion being only 14 but he is on the team but not currently active, HIS choice. Our family was not concerned with junior legion as most of the JV MHS players were playing Jr. LEAGUE and SR. LEAGUE all-stars and felt confident that their teams would be strong enough to survive D-7 and succeed to state, so Jr. Legion was not an issue. Ask someone else.
2. Talent development, in my opinion, is derived from playing at or above each individual players level for a long period of time, so in other words if you are unhappy because your kid is sitting on the bench then invest in him and get him lessons, sign him up with other tourney teams, pay up! Frankly, by the time your child gets to high school he/she should already be DEVELOPED and as a parent and as a child that wants to succeed in any sport, it is up to them/him to enhance their skills. I hope you are not the kind of parent that complains when their kid sits the bench because he can't play and complains about the coaches but you never pick up a ball to throw with him.
3. Look at Post 25's record for the season, not exactly what I would call beating up on all of the other Legion teams, especially with more than 6 losses in the regular season. Check again! I find it hard to believe that Post 25 is the only Legion team with collegiate players, maybe Sonny Dearth can research and let us all know. I really like Hux and Warthan on the Yorktown team, they are awesome however, our 14U Canes team beat them not once but twice. Because of that I am not so sure that I would have wanted to compete against them, not exactly the greatest of competition for 14, 15, and 16's (Jr. Legion) if a 14U team can beat them. Try again...maybe their coaches need to develop them a little more, do they have any 14 year olds on their team? Certain players getting promoted constantly does stink when it is a team sport, I would agree however, life is not fair and that is just the way it goes. If one is not happy and feels light should be shed on their kid more, move him/her to another school, what is stopping you? You can always shine on a Denbigh Baptist baseball team.
4. I do not need to ask "my buddy" Howard anything. I am not concerned at this point. If my son(s) want to play jr. legion then they can go somewhere else and play, but as now they do not. Kabuki, you are fun.....and though you may know quite a bit about most things or rather enough to be dangerous, you do not know it all, trust me.....if I become unhappy at MHS, my sons will be at Hampton Christian with Coach Moore, bottom line.

It doesnt matter about all of that, YES we know Post 25 have a terrible Organiztion, and YES everyone hates their coaches, but yet? Doesnt everyone hate the Yankees for trading players and gettin fresh faces?
We all know thats not the way to go, but for them its bussiness.
Post 25 has good players, players that come back from college casue they got no playing time an/or stunk up the field.
But really, it did get handed to them, with the rainout an all, cause DHS BY FAR had a better team, and pitching depth. But they didnt play well, an lost.
But for them, states will be very hard, worse than last year.
Watkins isnt throwin as hard an powerfull as before, and the Appr. school duo will get rocked and have a fissy on the mound.
Mayb Shoe will be thier ace in states?? At least hitting wise he will.
Becuase this is a different level than wut u saw Champ. night, none of these kids will touch the states pitchers. These pitcher are GOOD college pitchers that play for respectable D1 schools(like tennesse and UVA)
But nothing more will come of this, DHS an Hampton got robbed, and will try again next year.
P.S. 25 will not be very good next year, considering their "all-stars" wont be there.
So whos pumped about MD starting tommorw?!? Sounds like a better an more competitve topic to me:rockon:

What would be fun and decide a "true" champion as so many say would be to have a "playoff" type of series like they do in the MLB, you know the best of 2 out of 3 games wins or 3 out of 5 games wins. I would agree that single elimination type play does not necessarily bring the best TEAM to the ship, but I guess that is the beauty of the game of baseball....any team can be beaten on any given day...ask the NY Yankees....sometimes your the horse and sometimes your the saddle!
