OFFENSE:
Cordarol Madison, Anthony Church and Jayvon Smith have impressed Bolton in the team's first two scrimmages, leading him to believe they're players who can contribute to an offense that averaged nearly 16 points a game last season. Smith, who can run the 40 in 4.5 seconds, will feature at running back, while Church and Madison will line up wide and look to extend opposing defenses along with quarterback Desmond Lee. Bolton plans to run the spread offense, though he admits to wanting more balance than anything, letting his offensive philosophy shift depending on what opposing defenses are keyed in on.

DEFENSE:
The Bookers will run the 4-3 this year, helped by Smith, Wesley Johnson and Eric Tyson. Bolton admitted he hadn't found a strength on defense yet -- at least, not in the sense of linebackers versus secondary versus defensive line -- but says his defense should be strong in the sense of playing together on the field and having all 11 players going after the football. Regardless of the scheme, Booker T. will need to improve on the nearly 17 points a game the Bookers gave up in 2006.

OUTLOOK:
Winning is the obvious challenge for the Bookers this season, according to Bolton, but perhaps moreso would be the challenge of learning how to win. Bolton says that starts with hard work in the preseason, on the practice field, in the weight room and while studying film. Extra effort fascilitates winning, Bolton says, pleased that his team is doing all the things he's asked them to so far. He's hesitant to assign a win-loss total with regards to what would make a successful 2007, but Bolton says if he sees progress on the field, he'll be fine with the season.
