STANDOUTS
Quarterback Eric Nixon and running backs Troy Fielder and Dell Bryce will spearhead the Islanders this season. All three were fixtures in the weight room in the off-season, working hard to turn last year’s winless season around.
OFFENSIVE OVERVIEW
The Islanders will stick with the Wing-T and also run shotgun sets from that formation. Bryce and Fielder are both capable of big plays in the backfield and Nixon has the experience to lead the Islanders. Also, Duty is excited about first-year receiver Justin Bollinger, who could be a key target for Nixon.
DEFENSIVE OVERVIEW
The Islanders will run a 3-5-3 set anchored by defensive linemen Josh Hatfield and Trent Boullianne. Duty also expects the linebackers to help improve on last year’s defense, which allowed 282 yards of total offense per game and 30 points.
OUTLOOK
Coming off of a winless season, the Islanders are eager to turn things around. Duty said that he’s excited because his players are focused on doing what it takes to improve. But does that mean challenging for the district title? Not likely, but the Islanders can be competitive.
