Peninsula-area athlete of the week:
Dyrell Roberts, Smithfield
Perhaps it’s fitting that the highest rated prospect in the area is awarded the Player of the Week award in week one. A sign of things to come? Likely.
Roberts, a Virginia Tech commit, had scored on rival Surry one time in each of the last two games, but he took it a step further in his senior finale rushing for 192 yards and scoring four touchdowns in the Packers’ 25-0 win.
"It was the first game so I definitely had the adrenaline going," Roberts said. "My line was blocking their tails off, they opened up big holes for me. This was the first week the band came out too, and you know the band always gets the team hype. Then I had a lot on my shoulders, everybody was hyping everything. I think I pretty much answered that, I'm just ready for the next game now."
It’s the third consecutive game that the Packers haven’t allowed Surry to score.
