Kecoughtan renamed its field hockey facility Tromly Field in a surprise ceremony between the Sept. 17 varsity and junior varsity games.

Gene Tromly, father of several former athletes at the school, was honored for his numerous contributions to Kecoughtan over the years. KHS athletic director Lee Martin said Tromly helps out with almost everything around the school.

This includes painting, working with the golf team, buying supplies, helping with field maintenance, working on tractors and running errands.

"This is all on a voluntary basis and for the love of the Kecoughtan Warriors that he does this," Martin said. "So for that we wanted to dedicate the field to him. It's a true blessing for us."

Tromly was coming back to the school after a golf match when he was rerouted to the field hockey games to be honored.
