The teams would regulary play a 9 or 10 game schedual with the 10th or 11th game awarded to the 2 conference champions to play for the district championship .? the 9 game schedual will consist of the 5 schools playing the teams within their conference side yearly. Schools would schedual 2 different teams from the adjacent conference every year, and two schools from other districts in state or out of state. This might make the Peninsula even stronger within the new playoff system consisting of 8 teams starting this year. The new 8 team playoff system has 4 teams playing in what appears to be wildcard games with first round Regional games, then a Regional semi finals, then a Regional Championship? If the Peninsula District had it’s on championship game it could very well feature two Peninsula District teams playing for the third time in the Regionals or even for both the Peninsula District championship and the Regional championship…
a Hampton High school regular season schedual could look like this example:

Hampton(5) vs. Salem(6)
Hampton vs. Damatha Md
Hampton vs. Menchville(5)
Hampton vs. Kecoughtan(5)
Hampton vs. Gloucester(6)
Hampton vs. Woodside(6)
Hampton vs. Phoebus(5)
Hampton vs. Bethel(6)
Hampton vs. Tabb(4) Who would you like to see your favorite high school football team play?...Create a fantasy schedual with the teams you think your team should match up with...Include teams from schools around the nation in your schedual

..I came up with this idea because people from outside our area that work at my work place say that the teams in our area are weak compared to the teams let's say in Bertie County to the Rocky Mount North Carolina area. They boast that the teams in that area are better and tougher. What do you think?

RipKlaw I would have to just laugh at your co workers...My parents are from Rocky Mount...and when I was at North Carolina Central U in Durham...I was able to witness quite a bit of football in the surrounding area including often visit to Rocky Mount to see the Rocky Mount Senior High Gryphons...it's no comparison......no comparison...the better football in NC is up near Charlotte and it's only one team...and thats Independence....when I was in college...Richmond County and Norther in Durham were the power houses...but even then they couldn't have fooled around with a Hampton Phoebus or Bethel team...High School football isn't that serious in NC...you get some spots here and there...but trust me on this one...I know better...I even watched Phoebus come to Charlotte and play Richmond county...and they beat the crap out of them in a Jambori ( Spelling ) and Coach Dee really wanted to play Independence that year...with a Chris Leake lead team...

No disrespect to nc football teams but im in the military at camp lejeune and my sister went to hillside high school and i have watched some teams from here and i dont think that some of their powerhouses could mess with our AA division 3 teams honestly they got talent but they dont have teams

..it's not just people from Carolina...i'm talking Texas, Illinois, Florida, and i give them their props...but i always invite them to Darling on Friday nights...they all talk about 6A schools in Texas, and the one guy from Illinois talks about East St. Louis and how it's really two schools merged together to form a student body of 10,000 people and they are 6A...About how no-one goes both ways and three deep rotations at every position so that the team is always fresh during the games...i let'em have it because i'm a Crabber..." LINE IT UP !!! "...lets see what's poppin i tell them...yeah those schools might be bigger but these teams ain't afraid to play football because you are a 6-7-8-9A school...

Aw man guys on my job from other states swear we can't compete and the competition is better like Florida...I mean come on now...we all know they play football all year long...down there they have high school flag football tournaments, seven on sevens, spring practice..?...WHAT!!!..come on..? the high school ball players here would love to have spring practice...but it's illegal says VHSL...the best thing we have going are the speed camps... i rmember one time after lifting weights during the spring at Hampton High...some of us decided to grab a football and line up and run through the plays as we remembered...COACH imediately yelled at us to stop and said that what we were doing was illegal...? Not in places like California, Texas, Florida...they have schools in those areas that practice without pads during the off season..those athletes have football legs all year long...they get to college and look faster than our high school athletes when they get to Uva, or Tech because we can't start practicing football until late July early August..it takes us until late Sept early October to have football legs..i love our football in this area and the state..really...but i don't like the fact that the VHSL won't let our school at least have spring practice, and i definetely don't like the VHSL ALL STAR EAST vs WEST game...they should combine the two sides take the best from that and go place the all stars from another state...

As a resident of NC (Raleigh), I have seen quite a bit of HS football in the 2+ years I've been down here. There are actually quite a few good teams down here that would give some of the better VA teams a run. Independence is a no brainer as they have superior athleticism and discipline to go along with great depth and size. When I went to states the past couple of years, I noticed maybe 3 players total (in the 2 games) that went both ways. JH Rose out of Greenville is also a great team. They have won the past 3 or 4 titles in 4A (Independence is 4AA). South View outside of Fayetteville is another team that comes to mind. Football in the Triangle area isn't as good. Garner High is the only team that I could see doing well against 3A opponents from VA. Also, there are many lower level teams that would play the role of App. State against VA's better teams. Thomasville (1AA I believe) regularly plays 4A teams in NC and beat them handily. Overall, I would stay VA is ahead of NC in terms of football. However, there are a few teams down here that I would to see play against the likes of Phoebus, Hampton, Woodside, Salem, OS, etc.

Ripklaw, it's me -- you're favorite high school football coach!!! I just thought I'd respond to this thread. I don't know how they do things in NC, but when I was living in Memphis, each football district got together in the summer to decide how many district games they would play. The rest of the games could be filled by whomever they wanted. At the end of the regular season, the top 4 teams in each district (called "regions" in Tennessee), based on district record, made the playoffs. It would be nice to be able to do something like that here. Play 7 district games and three against opponents from other areas. The only problem was if you had a small district. The 4th place team could be 1-4 in the district, 2-8 overall, and they would get in. Good discussion though.

Go 'Canes!!!

Things are different nowadays, coach. TN & KY hae made their districts so small that nearly everyone makes the playoffs, including 0-10 teams. Saw a Tn. 1st round score of 91-0 a year or 2 ago.
I've never heard of being able to pick and choose which teams you want to avoid playing - well, I have, YEARS ago in Va, but it's "illegal" now. Va. teams have to play everyone in their district that wants to play them - only exception I've seen is for districts of more than 10 teams.

Personally, I would like to see some re-drawn districts all-around, including classification changes... here is a proposal I would love to see happen...

Chesapeake Bay District (AAA)
Hampton
Phoebus
Kecoughtan
Bethel
Lake Taylor
Maury
Granby
Churchland

Peninsula District (AAA)
Woodside
Denbigh
Menchville
Warwick
Heritage
Tabb
Grafton
Lafayette

Colonial District (AA)
Bruton
Jamestown
Warhill
Gloucester
New Kent
York
Smithfield
Southampton

In my scenario, all of the teams play a 7-game district schedule, and three non-district games to do rivalry (York-Tabb, Grafton-Tabb) games or schedule tough out of conference matchups.

Sample schedule for Hampton:

Heritage
Western Branch
at Tabb
at Kecoughtan
at Bethel
Lake Taylor
Maury
at Granby
at Churchland
Phoebus
