Having a Fall Season is a perfect fit for those schools who really want their individual programs to develope and get better. As you can see the Fall Season ends right before the Spring Season Conditionings begin.

Most of the teams have brought in this years 8th grade class and have begun working with them as well as the returning players generally freshman and sophmores. Nobody has brought in their #1 pitcher to strike everyone out. Nobody has brought in the BRUTE HITTER. That teach's absolutely nothing for offense or defense. In fact the games have a fair share of errors and plenty of "in-play" balls. Some innings are played really well and others are straight out of the "Bad News Bears" movie. That is what this program is all about. Diverting attention away from the starting 9 who generally get all the spring attention and focussing on developing the younger players who want and will become the spring season starting 9 in the future. And lets not forget promoting player interest. Look at Kecoughtan....3 teams!!!.....thats how you do it!!!!......that how you ensure a solid future!!!!

From a Coach's perspective I think all can agree the Fall Program is, can, and will be an invaluable tool to help eveyone's program.

With any luck....next year's Fall Season will explode with interested teams.

Sorry to hear of your dissapointment. While it is true only three schools have stepped up to participate, try not to look past what is really going on. Education and developement. I can promise you that from a coach's perspective we at Warwick have gained valuable field time for our under class players and have indoctrinated and have begun the transition of our new 8th grade players from rec ball to High School. For many it has been an eye opener. It's not always just about playing the game.

While I understand your frustration I ask you look at it this way. Unlike our local Travel Teams who draw and be very selective of players from all over the BRD and PD. Unlike the Little Leagues and other youth organizations who can draw players from three or four different High School zones. High School teams draw players from a very small area (zone). I attended a clinic where a Division I Head Coach said High School is by far the hardest to coach. I couldn't agree more. Any Extra Field Time within the guidlines of VHSL rules is GOLD!! That by itself has made the Fall program a huge sucess!

If you know and can shed some light. The team that was short on players.....was that due to players having prior commitments to attend a softball tournament?
Maybe the whole issue has to do with team commitment and who gets more commitment.

The program is going to grow and get better. This only the first year. Dont give up on it yet.
