RICHMOND, Va. - One almost willed her team to the state championship. Two others are a main reason why it didn't happen. All three were recognized by state sports writers when selecting The Associated Press All-Group AA girls team for 2007.

Andrea Barbour of Charlottesville scored 25 points in the state championship game, including 14 in the third quarter to get her team within striking distance. The Black Knights fell short, but Barbour was a runaway choice as the AP's player of the year.

A 5-foot-10 senior, Barbour averaged 23.6 points, 9.5 rebounds and 3.1 assists. She scored more than 2,300 career points with over 1,000 rebounds for Charlottesville.

She's joined on the first team by Abby Oliver and Abby Redick, both of state champion Hidden Valley, Kari Jackson of Abingdon and Devon Brown of Waynesboro.

Oliver, a 5-8 junior, averaged 16 points, 3.2 assists and 2.8 rebounds for Hidden Valley, which finished 29-1. She had 32 as the Titans won the title, 63-53.

Redick, a 6-foot sophomore and sister of former Duke star J.J. Redick, averaged 13.5 points, 7.3 rebounds and 3.1 assists. She scored 19 in the championship game.

Their coach, first-year man Mike McGuire, is the coach of the year. McGuire took over a team that made it to last year's championship game and won it this time.

Jackson, 5-10, averaged 23.3 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.6 steals. She scored 37 in a regional semifinal game to get Abingdon into the state quarterfinals, and finished her high school career with 2,179 points.

Brown, a 5-11 junior, averaged 27.7 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists.

The second team includes seniors Jordan Burkholder of Turner Ashby, Brooke Shepherd of state semifinalist Virginia High and Ashley Jones of Brookville, junior T.T. Webb of state semifinalist Pulaski County and freshman Jackie Brewer of Handley.
