Bethel, Menchville advance in field hockey
PENINSULA DISTRICT
Bethel gained its first-ever district field hockey tournament victory Monday, coming from behind in the second half to eliminate Warwick 2-1 in a first-round game at Stoney Run Park.
Menchville won the other quarterfinal, beating Denbigh 2-0.
Both winners play in Tuesday’s semifinals at Stoney Run.
Bethel, seeded fourth, faced top-seeded Kecoughtan at 5 p.m. That follows the 3 p.m. game matching second-seeded Gloucester against Menchville, the third seed. The winners will meet Wednesday for the championship
Cierra Whitted and Shelby Judkins scored the second-half goals for Bethel. Both came off penalty corners.
Sarah Atkins has Warwick's only goal.
Jordan Snider scored both of Menchville’s goals.
BAY RIVERS DISTRICT
Lafayette scored two second-half goals to defeat Poquoson 2-0 in the first round at James City County Stadium.
Hannah Lyerly and Chelsea Speth scored for the Rams.
