Dukes sweep PD meet titles
Gloucester swept the team and individual titles Thursday in the Peninsula District cross country meet at Newport News Park.
Doug Fenstermacher ran 5 kilometers in 15 minutes, 59 seconds, beating runner-up Orlando Burton of Heritage by 31 seconds. Menchville’s David Gerlach was third in 16:54.
Gloucester’s boys had 35 points, followed by Menchville (46), Kecoughtan (52) and Bethel (120).
The Dukes’ Hannah Varnell took the girls crown in 18:19, edging Hampton’s Kristina Woodard by one second. Bethel’s Ariana Betts was third in 20:09.
Gloucester’s girls had 39 points, followed by Bethel (63), Hampton (73) and Kecoughtan (85).
The top four teams in each division earned spots in the Eastern Region meet Thursday, Nov. 1, at Bells Mill Park in Chesapeake.
