Shelby Harris and singles substitute Caroline Suttle won in singles and doubles as host Hampton Roads Academy beat Walsingham Academy 6-3 in a Virginia Independent Schools tournament quarterfinal.
Walsingham's top two of Clare Spooner and Olivia Twiddy won in singles and together at No. 1 doubles, but the Navigators won the rest of the matches to beat the Trojans for the second time this year. Harris, Emily Spellman, Claire Spencer and Suttle prevailed in singles, and the doubles teams of Harris-Christina Panagopulos and Suttle-Megan Casey won to clinch the triumph.
HRA will play in a semifinal. The Navigators figure to travel to Warrenton to face No. 1 Highland, barring a major quarterfinal upset by No. 8 Norfolk Christian.
The match originally was scheduled for Friday, but HRA coach Ray Smith is hoping to play it Thursday because of his responsibilities Friday as Bethel High's athletic director.
