Rischelle "Coco" Carter scored 18 points and sophomore Ashley Vieira added 14 to spark the Richmond-area Blue Devils past the Stallions in the Denbigh Holiday Classic first round, giving Varina a berth against Menchville in Friday's 3:30 p.m. semifinal.
Sophomore 6-footer Janelle Williams starred for Green Run in the low post, scoring 20 points.
Green Run cut a double-digit second-half deficit to three, but Varina -- with double-figure scorers -- pulled away in the last four minutes. Carter was 10-of-17 on free throws in a game that featured 67 free throws.
Varina is aiming for its second tournament title of the season. The Blue Devils won the Fort Lee Invitational.
