HAMPTON -- St. Mark's (Del.) looked every bit like the top seed it is in the National High School Division, ousting Menchville 49-12 in the first round of the Virginia Duals Friday morning at the Hampton Coliseum.
St. Mark's jumped to a 12-0 lead as the Monarchs forfeited the 103-pound match and Sean Dolan (112) pinned Elon Elliott. Josh Snook (125) recorded a pin over Walter Blackman after Nick Williams won the 119-pound match, a 4-3 decision over Dan Maguire.
The Spartans only recorded one other pin: the 215-pound match between Corey Olsen and Menchville's Antwine Pittman.
"We went up against one of the best teams in the country," Menchville coach Chris Wiatt said. "I thought we did some good things out there on the mat, and I couldn't be prouder of my team."
Monarchs 140-pounder Odis Wesby took a 8-5 decision over Michael Mauk, and Menchville heavyweight Walter Pavusa pinned Matt Trusczienski just 13 seconds into the second period.
St. Mark's will face Liberty (Pa.) in the semifinal round at 1 p.m. Menchville will take on Parkersburg South (W.Va.) at the same time in the consolation bracket.
