HAMPTON -- For the first time since high school teams started placing in the Virginia Duals in 1995, Great Bridge will not finish in the top four. Fauquier saw to that Saturday morning with a 32-24 win in the consolation round.
The Falcons came out of the gate hot, winning the first six matches. Andrew Richards' technical fall over Chris Mansfield in the 125-pound match was the highlight of that streak.
Louis Johnson gave the WIldcats their first win in the 140-pound match with a 10-3 decision over Chris Moon. Joey Grainger (145) recorded the only pin for Great Bridge, in 23 seconds over Neil McGuire.
The Wildcats won four straight decisions to claw back into the match, with Alan Clamp (189) securing a technical fall and 215-pounder Billy Curling taking a 15-4 major decision over Kevin Friend. But Great Bridge forfeited the heavyweight match, not wanting any part of Nick Cook. Fauquier's heavyweight, Cook is the No. 4 wrestler in his class nationally and won the Beast of the East tournament earlier this season.
