Boo Williams’ Summer League 16-and-Under Team survived a 15-4 run from Tennessee Flight Silver at the beginning of the second half and held on for a 53-48 semifinal victory Sunday morning at Hampton High.
Natalie Nouosel sank a layup with 2:15 to play to tie the game 45-45. But BWSL answered with an 8-3 run in the final moments.
“Oh, I tell you,” Williams said. “Tennessee’s got a good team over there, and we knew they weren’t going to die. But I thought we held our composure real well down the stretch.
“That was the key for us, to hold our composure as well as we did.”
Tierra Pratt led BWSL with 19 points and six rebounds. Though 12 of those points came in the first half, her 3-pointer with three minutes to play helped keep Tennessee Flight at bay.
“Tierra plays hard every night,” Williams said. “She’s never going to cheat you on effort.”
BWSL wasn’t cheated on the glass, either, outrebounding Tennessee Flight 26-16. Tennessee Flight had just five rebounds in the second half.
The win gives Williams a shot at his third consecutive tournament title.
“I’ll worry about that later, after the title game,” he said.
