Bethel clinches PD boys title;
BRD girls in three-way tie
Jontel Evans hit the game-winning 3-pointer with 19 seconds remaining Thursday, giving Bethel a 58-56 home victory over Kecoughtan and the Peninsula District regular-season boys basketball title.
The Bruins clinched the top seed in the district tournament and a No. 1 seed in the Eastern Region tournament. Further details are upcoming.
In Bay Rivers District girls competition, Poquoson and Bruton each won their regular-season finales, forcing a three-way tie with Lafayette for the regular-season championship.
Poquoson defeated York 50-37, and Bruton beat Tabb 63-35.
Lafayette will play Poquoson in Warhill's gym at 7 p.m. Friday. The winner of that game will face Bruton at 7 p.m. Saturday, also at Warhill, for the district tournament's top seed and an automatic berth in the Region I tournament.
