BRD girls finish in three-way tie
In Bay Rivers District girls competition Thursday night, Poquoson and Bruton each won their regular-season finales, forcing a three-way tie with Lafayette for the regular-season championship.
Poquoson defeated York 50-37, and Bruton beat Tabb 63-35.
Lafayette will play Poquoson in Warhill's gym at 7 p.m. Friday, and the winner of that game will gain a Region I tournament bid. The winner of that game will face Bruton at 7 p.m. Saturday, also at Warhill, for the district tournament's top seed.
Bruton already is in the regional, win or lose Saturday. Even Friday's loser will make the regional unless a team seeded fourth or lower wins the Bay Rivers tournament.
Bruton gained the favorable position due to a preseason random drawing conducted among all Bay Rivers teams. It drew a better number than did the Rams or Islanders.
