Poquoson’s Caitlyn Cook Furr will be the only local participant in this weekend’s state gymnastics meet at Tallwood High in Virginia Beach. She will compete in the Group A/AA individual all-around competition Saturday.
The junior was second all-around among A/AA gymnasts at state last year. She was second in the Group A/AA qualifiers Feb. 8 at Orange.
The two-week break between regionals and state is because of a scheduling conflict at the host site. It has given extra preparation time to Cook Furr, who competed while sufferering from strep throat at the Peninsula District meet and had several falls at the state qualifier.
"I think the break’s good," she said. "It gives me some time to make sure that I have everything polished up for states. I might try to add a couple things, but I’m not really sure.
"I’m just going to see how things go."
