In the 1950's, 1960's and 1970's, the Peninsula was a powerhouse for wrestling. Since that time, the talent has shifted more towards the beach and the northern regions. It's time to rebuild the PENINSULA POWERHOUSE!!!....starting with our Pee Wees all the way though to our High School Wrestlers.

The Peninsula will introduce a new wrestling club this year called Raider Nation. It will be held at Warwick High School in Newport News. It will showcase three divisions; High School, Middle School, and Pee Wees. The Head Coach For the High School and Middle School divisions is USA Wrestling Silver Level Certified Coach Tony White. The Head Coach for the Pee Wees is renowned National Wrestling Coach Steve Pittman. There will be a slew of other very talented coaches in the room as well. All wrestlers and coaches are invited to attend and be a part of this exciting experience.

Sign ups will be held on Feb. 25-29 at Warwick High School at 6pm, outside the Gym in the main hallway. Practices will be held in the Warwick Wrestling Room on Mondays and Wednesdays for Middle School and High School divisions and Tuesdays and Thursdays for Pee Wee Divisions. From 6pm to 8pm for both divisions.

The club will accept the first 60 kids to sign up in each division.

We look forward to seeing any and all who want to improve their wrestling skills and become a competitive force to be reckoned with. I have received an overwhelming amount of interest from wrestlers all over the Tidewater area that are very excited about this new opportunity. The wrestling levels range from Current State Champions to wrestlers who have just started this Year!! We are excited to have them all. Please remember, the first 60 kids in each division are all we may be able to handle. So please don't procrastinate.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to call me at (Cell) 757 592 2076.

See ya tonight!!

To all the parents and Student/Athletes that came to the first night of sign-ups, I just wanted to say thank you. I enjoyed talking with each one of you. You're right, this is VERY EXCITING!! It appears that the room is going to be filled with allot of great talent, and people are coming from all over. We have representation from Newport News, Hampton, York County, Poquoson, Virginia Beach, Grafton, Smithfield, and even Richmond.
Almost every High School in the area is represented. Thank you again, the numbers are higher than we planned for on the first night, and there are four more nights of sign-ups!!

Sign-ups will continue Tuesday through Friday at 6pm at Warwick High School, between the two gyms, in the main hallway. If we reach our limit of 60 kids in each division before Friday, I will send out a note on this website letting everyone know that sign-ups are closed. Thanks again for all of your support.

To all,
I just wanted to say thank you to all who have signed up for Raider Nation Wrestling Club. We have had a very good response in numbers and quality of kids. We will learn good technique, work hard, see good competition and most of all have a good time doing it all. We have a few spots left in the Pee Wees/Elementary Division and I received several calls yesterday and last night from parents in Richmond and Va Beach who said they haven't had the chance to come sign up but will be at the first practice Tuesday to do so. We may have to extend the maximum amount of kids in this division by a few.

The Middle School Division has not had the same response. There are several positions still available in this division, but had a fairly good response last night at sign ups. We hope to get a little closer to filling this division tonight. You are the immediate Future!! (We currently have no private school wreslters signed up)

The High School Division has had a good response, and I hope to get a little closer to filling the rest of the positions tonight. We have had a very good response from the AA schools, but not as much from the AAA group. The AAA group makes up the Peninsula District (PD) and this was the original target group to improve. At the Peninsula District Tournament, I passed out the information and made a point to talk to every coach in the district. I only had one coach who said that his team was located so far away, that he and his kids had talked about it and decided they were going to do their own thing locally. I agreed that made sense and wished him and his team well. I have had a few individuals from PD teams sign up, but there are allot of kids in the Peninsula District that are not currently involved in other sports, or another club that I hope will come out tonight. (We currently have no private school wrestlers signed up.)

I would like to thank each of the twelve coaches who have volunteered to be a part of the Raider Nation. In one way or another, they have been involved in the area as coaches for many years, and we are blessed to have each one of them. I look forward to hearing from more coaches who want to come. If you are interested, please just drop me a line (Cell 757 592 2076) we'd love to have you. We have an open door policy, so even if you don't want to be involved as an active coach, you are certainly welcome to come observe and support. (We currently have no private school coaches signed up.)

Tonight is that last official night of sign-ups at Warwick High School from 6pm-8pm. I know the AA's are working hard and getting ready for states. If you can't make it, please call to reserve your spot.

Practices
Warwick High School Wrestling Room
Pee Wees/Elementary - Tuesday and Thursday 6pm-8pm
Middle School/High School - Monday and Wednesday 6pm-8pm

Thanks again,

Coach White

Coach White - Have you filled the High School Division yet? I was out of town all week and just got back late Friday night... My son is a Sophomore and would be interested in practicing with your team. He is a small 189, but can wrestle up at 215 if you need some help matching up the bigger guys in workouts. Please advise ASAP. Email is john6186@hotmail.com

Thanks. John
