Homestanding Lancaster earned a 53-44 victory Saturday in the Region A championship game against Middlesex, which took a hit when standout point guard Sherita Burse was taken to a hospital in the third quarter with an ankle injury, not to return. It's believed she has a bad sprain; she could play when the Chargers travel north for a state Group A tournament quarterfinal next Saturday against the Region B champion — Wilson Memorial or George Mason.
The triumvirate of Andrea White (18 points), Takeia Jones (16) and Tyesha Harvey (11) paced the second-seeded Red Devils. Each of those three scored four points in the final quarter, when Lancaster (23-4) outscored Middlesex 16-10.
Micah Reed led Middlesex (22-5) with 15 points and at least 10 rebounds. The Chargers briefly took the lead in the third period before succumbing.
Lancaster will get to stay in Region A for its state quarterfinal next Saturday against the Wilson Memorial-George Mason loser.
