Lafayette's Garrick Piggott won the boys triple jump and York's Sherelle White topped the girls' 55-meter dash fields, the only individual winners by Bay Rivers District athlete, in Saturday's state Group AA indoor track meet at Liberty University.
Piggott's jump of 45-6 3/4 was more than nine inches longer than runner-up Ethan Nixon of Brookville as he successfully defended his title.
White ran her 55 in 7.27 seconds, edging Grafton's Michelle Speede by .10. Speede came back to finish third in the 300.
Western Albemarle won the boys championship with 57 points. Jamestown was sixth with 29 points. On the girls side, Blacksburg won with 59 points. Jamestown's 20th-place finish with 11 points was the best of the Bay Rivers girls. Bruton and York tied for 21st with 10 points.
Grafton's Danny Sitton tied for second in the boys high jump at 6-4, while Jamestown's Aurielle Green was second in the girls triple jump.
