state finals info

For you first-timers : the A/AA state tourney is this weekend at the Salem Civic Center. It's not a "combined" tourney, where you'd have 1 final champ in each wt. class, but a "combination event", like the Va. Duals - AA on the front mats and A in the back.

WRESTLERS : On Thursday, mats will be available from 5:30 - 8:30 for practice. Weigh-ins are Friday at 8 a.m. with the first matches at 10 a.m. Sat. weigh-ins are at 7:30.

FANS : Each day has 2 sessions. Admission is (corrected) $7 per session or $21 for all 4.

Session 1 is from 10-6 ish Friday : 1st round & 1st consol. round (about 1:00).
Session 2 is from 6:30-11 ish : quarter-finals, then 2nd consol. round (about 9:00).
Session 3 is from 9:30-4 ish Saturday : semi-finals, 2 consol. rounds and 7th, 5th & 3rd place matches.
Session 4 is from 6:30-10 ish Saturday : finals & awards/trophies/medals.

Tidbits :

"Festival" seating - 1st come, 1st served.
(Grundy fans sit on the left, C'burg on the right.)

The arena WILL be cleared between sessions and "trash" will be gathered. Do NOT leave something behind (like a program) and expect it to be there when you return.

Expect LONG lines - only 2 doors go into seating from the lobby, and last year they searched backpacks, bags and purses. NO outside food/drinks allowed in the arena area, so finish it up while in line in the lobby.

Smoking is allowed outside the building (through a "side" door, so you don't HAVE to go out front and stand in line to come back in).

Clothing, programs and updated brackets are sold in the front lobby (so you DO have to stand in line to come back in). Last year, if you bought a program, you got free brackets for EITHER A or AA... if you want both, you have to pay a little extra. And the Friday morning brackets will NOT be 100% accurate (since they were printed on Thursday) if a kid fails to make weight that morning and is replaced.

NO drink machines are in the seating area - it's concession stands or nothing.
The lobby has (or had) a couple, but they may be turned off and/or they may offer only non-soda drinks - I've not been there in a year, so I'm not sure about this.

:clap2: Am I reading these results correctly?! I expected a lot from the Bulls- but a first round pin for Tasara at 171? Way to go! Hope all the BRD wrestlers do well.

I got them from the link listed in post #7 of this thread. And that really was a question- it is listed as a "fall" - same as pin? I don't know terminology for wrestling.

I see them now. Yes, a fall is a pin!

Huge win by Keith Person from Grafton!!!! 1-0 over C'burg's big guy.

Is there another site which updates things quicker than the Christiansburg site ? I think last year there was some message board that you could go to and get some instant results.

Last year I linked to a radio broadcast of the AA final matches from the Christiansburg HS website. It was a real homer broadcast, but at least I knew real-time that Keaton had won.
Thanks Daily Press for your coverage of the wrestlers! It was good to see the Grafton wrestlers get some pub yesterday.
