Brenna Thomas led off the game with a home run and Stephanie Coates pitched a one-hitter as Gloucester went to Virginia Beach and won 4-1 at Princess Anne, one of the traditional powers of Eastern Region softball. Thomas was 3-for-3 in the Dukes' opener, and Karli Robb was 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBI. Leta Bressin and Ashley Moore had two hits apiece. Coates struck out eight and hit an RBI single. The only hit off her was a single in the second inning, when the Cavaliers scored an unearned run.
