I would just like to give congrats to Katie Alexander for a well pitched game today. I know you lost 3-2 to Warwick, keep your head up and pitches down, the wins will come for you and your KHS team.
I also here York beat New Kent 1-0, way to go York.

New Kent loses to York are you serious?!!! That may be the upset of the year. Looks like KHS vs WaHS should have been a game to see. Likewise with YHS and NKHS. Looks like some early season shake ups are occuring. Keep it up girls. Who pitched for Warwick?

Umpire do you remember how each team scored. I assume Alexander went the distance for KHS. How did she look?

That certainly makes this game a must see!!!

In the 6th Tre Bird got on by a bunt, the next batter to reach base got on by a bad throw to 1st, they walked Sarah Adkins to load the bases, Va King had a single up the middle to score two and I forget how the other run scored. I do not remember how KHS scored maybe Phil Alexander could help out if he is on.

KHS vs. WHS scoring took place in the 6th and 7th innings. WHS scored 3 in the bottom of the 6th on a bases loaded single up the middle and a fielders choice. Errors by KHS both mental and physical allowed base runners. Katie piched an excellent game for KHS. So did Byrd for WHS. 2 base hits by Katie Alexander and freshman Ashley Nichols started the KHS seventh and both runs were scored on a pass ball and a fielders choice. With 2 outs and runners on 2nd and 3rd a ground ball to short ended the KHS rally. Real good ball game by both teams.:clap2:

york beat new kent. thats an upset!! Propser pitched a one hitter isn't that ironic! what were they hitting with blind folds? because they obviously couldn't see the ball!!! thats is insane!!!
I don't know how that Atkins and Byrd pitch-catch combination is going to work out there has always been too much competition between the two. Once again King is in the spotlight!

warwick girls are taking the district this year hands down, King, Atkins, Byrd, and Dawson are leading the way. And gustomski and Ward (who is only a sophmore) are also really gonna play a big role this year. Gloucester's run is over and its warwick's time now.

Great games are such fun and I am sorry I missed it. I was interested in how Heritage would match up with a quality opponent. I was impressed they hit well. If they can string together some hits from some others they will have something. I do wish I could see the GHS - KHS but unfortunatly I will not be able to attend. A buddy of mine called me from Poquoson and said Poquoson beat New Kent. If so that is 2 in a row. What is going on up there? PHS pitcher Gibbs struck out New Kent pitcher Mills to end the game. I hear she pitched a 1 hitter. Great job Poquoson and Gibbs.

In my opinion, this years Warwick team is the most complete team they have had since Coach Dawson took the team. As everyone looks at the few players who are always mentioned I have taken notice to the rest of the team. All of them hit well and can play solid defense. Here is the catch and interesting note....they are all sophmores. Sounds allot like the very same scenario when the current spotlight players hit the varsity field. Be on the lookout for names like Ward, Baldwin, Lasley, Ayers, Lund and a few others in the future. As one good group leaves another good group is ready to take over but for this one year the two groups are merged as one.
Atkins taking charge behind the plate this year is a testiment to her ability to know what the team needed and the maturity to show that team statistics are more important if they want to exceed last years run in regionals.
Coach Dawson has one of those team rosters this year that just don't come very often. WHS is my pick for top spot in the PD.

Warwick definitely has more offense than I've seen them have past 3 years. They returned their top 4 batter who all batted over .400. They have power in the #5 spot. Experience and versatility in the 6&7(also returners) spots... a solid #8(returner) and a fiesty #9. I expecct they'll put plenty of runs on the board. They have kinks to workout but once they put it all together... they are capable of BIG things.
Some people seem to be concerned about the "Byrd-Atkins combination". These girls have been "bestfriends" for years. This combination has played on many teams(N.Hampton All-Stars, Parkview LL, DeerPark All-Stars, Peninsula Stars, Va Legends, WHS) together. Sarah & Tra have been teammates since the age of nine. They've always had to compete for the 1-2 pitching spots. That's what make them so good. Byrd and Atkins have kept each other at the 'top" of their games. They've shared a lot of the same team coaches, batting coaches, conditioning trainers and pitching instructors. Different coaches had different 1-2 rotations, but they were all excited to have a "1-2 punch"(Coach Dawson says) like this. These two young ladies have gone from teammates to friends to best friends to sisters. Everyone has ups and downs but contrary to what anyone believes, the "Byrd- Atkins"or" Aktins- Byrd"(in any order) is a WINNING combination and in "THE BIG GAME", they will always have each other's back.
WHS has waited and prepared for years for this year. We have watched these athletes develope and we have BIG plans this year. This is a team... we all realize that and everyone has a part to play. It's not about spotlights... WHS stands UNITED!

Red may have been at the game but his assistant was behind the plate watching and taking notes.

Well niether one of them was watching MHS and HeHS. All this talk about WaHS #1, they only beat KHS by 1, and 2 of them were unearned and just 3 hits. WaHS still has to hit the rise ball to beat GHS. That may have been a smart move for Red to send his assistant.

We don't have enough scores called in to enable us to have put a good set of standings together.

Best game I've attended in many years in either district. Amazing performance by both teams. The defense by both teams was very impressive. The pitchers were definitely dualing. Great job by both pitchers. Great job to Ashley Prosper.
There was standing room only at this game and I can assure you we all got our monies worth. Good job to all and have a great season!

I see Poquoson's pitcher also one hit New Kent. If York and Poquoson both stay undefeated until they meet, that should make for a great game.

Why didn't Warhill call in score or anything about game? I thought home team was suppose to call. I was told that York pulled starters in 1st inning and didn't want to run up score and still won 14-0.

I wouldn't read too much into anything this person says...obviously doesn't care about softball or sports in general...just on here to pass time because they have nothing else to do! Can't even spell Peninsula.
