Looking at the paper stats this was great game. Sorry I missed it.

I believe Smithfield plays Poquoson on 4/12 and 4/19, both Saturday games.

Smithfield has come out strong and is playing as a team...they have worked very hard and there is alot of talent in the program. GO PACKERS!

Poquoson 5 or more to Zero. Too much offense in Bull Island. Pitching and defense is holding too.

Poquoson vs Smithfield 4/01/08
Two good teams. Smithfield off to their best start in several years. This should be the game of the week in the BRD. Who do you think will win?I pick Poquoson over Smithfield somewhere around 2-1.I base this prediction only because I`m going with experience over the new talent.

Should be a good game.

Oh I was just going by the schedule on the hrvarsity standings link. I thought it says April 1st. Could someone post the correct date? Thanks.

4/12 and 4/19 are correct. I'll make the fix in the standings.

Does anyone know who Poquoson's pitcher plays travel ball if so for what team? I think if Smithfield generates more offense they will continue to win but if they rely only 1 run to win a game they may be in trouble. Smithfield has Jamestown and New Kent next - if they make it past New Kent with a win then there will definitely be a show down with Poquoson. Defintely one for all to come out and watch.

They are led by Freshman Alora Lincoln and Senior Kristin Dudney who provides most of their offense. If Kristen is shut down it will be difficult for Smithfield to manufacture runs. Poquoson 0 Smithfield 1 (Prediction)

It will be a good game. Poquoson can generate alot of offense and Smithfield is built around their pitching and defense. Should make for a great day of softball.

The Poquoson pitcher is currently not playing travel ball but, there are a few teams recruiting her including the Southside Sting. Give us a call Star:)

I think Star Gibbs and Katie Alexander used to both play for Back River Surge but left due to the coaches. Any team would be very fortunate to have those two play with them! Good job so far this season girls...keep up the good work:clap2::clap2:

Smithfield....who is Smithfield? Isn't that the school KIng left to go to Warwick becasue they weren't any good. I say Poquoson 6-Smithfield 1.

Who is King? Was this the player that was kicked off the team for not attending practices? Not sure, only thing I know is the Smithfield present 2008.

Not sure how their season will finish this year but they have a load of young talent coming along and if the Coach can't win a state championship in the next 3 years with it, it will be said that it wasn't because Smithfield didn't have the talent. But maybe because they didn't have the coaching?:rain:

There is no doubt that Smithfield has talent AND coaching. Build them up don't break them down. It is very difficult to win a state championship in any sport.

Your first year at Smithfield and you are already complaining about the coaching. From what I've seen, Smithfield has a decent team and a good coach and they might have a chance at State in the next three years if you stay on your side of the fence and let them do their job on the field. But no, you will be the one constantly complaining when things don't go right for your daughter’s team and it sounds like you will always be blaming the coach. Give it a rest and let the coach do her job and let the girls play the game.

Yes Smithfield has signed a D-1 player. A few years back their SS was the AA player of the year and signed with ECU.

That is her. She hurt her back her freshman year and came home. I think she coached the Dirt Devils one summer after she came back. She was a great person and player.

Forgive the misunderstanding of the post, I love the coaches at Smithfield and think they are doing a GREAT JOB, the post was excitement with so much talent coming up that I feel with Coaching that we have we will win a State Championship. It was written in a hurry. So forgive any misunderstanding, I should have put it, if the parents stay out of it and politics of who plays when and where stay out of it AND let the Coaches do their job. Again the coaches are doing a good job with the team. Without a doubt I fully support the coaches at Smithfield and will always do so, they are doing great. Personally I am not a complainer but an in depth student of the game, not much on parental politics. :clap2: Coaches are doing GREAT keep up the good work SMITHFIELD

Yea I hear that the freshmen pitcher Lincoln is being recruited already by sevaral D1 schools that include Tennessee and Va. Tech. Tincher is a senior or a junior? I think she is a senior. So hey maybe the next Tincher is right her in our back yard.
I guess we will see in four years from now. With the sats she is throwing how is she not the best pitcher right now in the BRD?And only a freshmen. Who is she playing travel ball with now? Is she back with the Legends? I heard she quit the other team she was with.Any truth to this?Good luck young lady.Has Smithfield ever signed a D1 other than the local universities?

She is a freshman but has alot to accomplish in Travel Ball and High School (Academically) before she goes anywhere. Actually she is not being recruited by anyone as of yet because that is against NCAA recruiting rules however from what I understand has received alot of information from different college's softball camps which are open to the public. She didn't quit her fall travel team, they quit her -- long story and not the forum for that. Catch me later and I can explain. But she is back with the Legends where she should have never have left that was her dad's fault. So I understand that she is now happy playing again. Workouts have improved and desire is rekindled from what we hear.

A few years ago I believe a girl attending smithfield signed last name Novak?? or something like that and she went to ECU down in greenville? This year they have several seniors attending Div III Schools to play on some academic scholarships. Which is great for the school and their respective travel ball programs. Smithfield has a great group of girls and coaches. Fan support is growing with the excitement.

The girl from SHS that went to ECU was Jenna Wilson.

Your daughter is not the first good pitcher Smithfield's had so give it a rest already. Novak was a very good pitcher and Smithfield had a good team. Your daughter's a freshman and hasn't even pitched half the season yet and your already talking about state. I hope SHS can handle you. I feel sorry for parents that have to listen to you and the poor coaches:(
Your prediction was Smithfield 1 and Poquoson 0; what was reality?

Did Jenna go to ECU or South Carolina? I thought she went to USC? Regardless, she was one super ball player. The Packers had a super bunch of young ladies on that team. It was a shame that Jenna got hurt and had her career cut short.

As far as Smithfields Coaching staff is concerned, you'll be hard pressed to find a better set of Coaches at the High School level.

I also think that it's WAY TOO PREMATURE to be talking any kind of talk about a State Championship. Too many variables to consider. You have get through an incredibly tough BRD schedule. I will admit though, the Lady Packers have a tremendous amout of young talent cycling through the program right now. And it looks to improve over the next two to three years. Several of these young ladies made that long trip to Texas for the PONY World Series a few years back. The talent is coming. A lot of focus and committment will be required to take it to the next level. Not only focus and committment from the players but from the parents as well.....a lot of it starts at home. I truly believe the staff will totally be there to help mold and nurture these girls.....gut check time - How bad do YOU want it?

Good luck Lady Packers, the fans will be behind you 100%!

Hey to all following this thread I apologized for some of the stirring that was done, I have already personally apologized for making some of the threads that sparked so much. But either way Alora and her parents and all the fans at Smithfield are good people and I wish everyone success this year in BRD and Peninsula. The fun of stirring kind of got out of hand. :)

Hey CB, how did the Dudney girl do at Jamestown this week? I couldn't find the stats on that one. She has got to be the hottest hitter in the District if not the state? Do you know what College she is going to or if she is playing college ball? I know a couple others from Smithfield are playing for Randolph Macon? in Ashland aren't they?

Kris10 Dudney was a beast at Jamestown!!!!! She went 3 for 4 with 2 triples and a Double. She is doing great both offence and defence. Smithfield girls are happy to have her as a teammate:cool:

I have noticed from going to many games in both districts that just because you don't see the name in the paper doesn't mean someone isn't hitting the ball well. Last week, several names aren't mentioned in paper and alot of the girls Daily Press mentioned as players to watch are doing a great job offensively and defensively.

J. Wlson checking in here, as I see that my name has shown up on this thread. It was ECU, and my career was cut short due to a severe back injury. But, life goes on....

Looking foward to the game this weekend, should be a good one! Curious to see the Pack's "rookie" that everyone is talking about. Who does she play travel ball for?

Where is Dudney going next year?

Welcome to the forum Jenna! I couldn't, for the life of me remember if it was ECU or USC. You had a lot of fans feeling real bad for you when you got hurt. You gave a lot of us old timers some good memories on that state run a few years back!

Not sure what travel team Ms. Lincoln is playing for - Coach Bell would be better suited to answer that question.

Not sure where Kristen is heading next year either, I'll see what I can dig up. She'll be an impact player when she arrives though.

Jenna great to have you join, wish I could have watched you pitched for Smithfield. I believe Dudney is up in the air but think it may be a Div III contender, meaning for the World Series.

After watching the Div III World Series last year and a couple major Div I tournaments the top tier for Div III are very good and could beat many Div I or II schools.

As for Lincoln that is my daughter and she is playing for the Legends. Hope to see ya at some of the games. Come up and say hello I will be the biggest tallest man you will see at the games, well on most occasions.

Dudney will be a great addition to any team.

Anyone know details about the New Kent / Smithfield game tonight?

Details Smithfield sophomores Baham got on base advanced on a steal, then sophmore Webb slapped the ball into left field scoring Baham from second. Smithfield led up until the bottom of the 6th inning, New Kent's lead off reaches on HBP -- Putting lead off on 1st, then that followed by sac out to advance to second, followed by Mills being walked then another pop up to 1st, making 2 outs two on. Then Smithfield committed four consecutive errors, two on one series and the other two on separate batters. Resulted in 4 runs being scored, smithfield loses 4 to 1. Smithfield is growing and will learn from it which will make for a very good game next go around. It was a good pitching dule between Mills and Lincoln, Mills gave up 4 hits and had 6 ks, Lincoln 3 hits and 7 ks. Very good game to watch exciting until the finish.

Look for the two teams to have a good battle the next time they meet.

There were only 2 errors committed by Smithfield. They were back to back and resulted in 4 runs. All in all, a very good game by both teams. The score does not do the game justice.

Agreed good game it is all relative of how strick you score a game it is different than it is in travel ball or college where they score it a little more strict. All in all a very good game by both teams and both teams should be commend for an exciting game.

The game was delayed for about 45 minutes due to rain and lightning. At the time of the delay in the 4th inning the bases were juiced with only one out with Poquson still at bat. The defense of Smithfield held but the hot hitters for Poquoson couldn't be contained in top of the 6th and posted 3 extra base hits on Lincoln scoring the 2 runs. The game winner come from Amy Puttman with a double to left. However #23 for Poquoson had the hottest bat of the game getting 2 of the 5 hits they had including a triple. Lincoln posted 14ks but couldn't contain Poquoson in the top of the 6th.

The game definitely lived up to the hype. The Poquoson line-up sure can hit the ball! However, credit is due to the Smithfield defense for holding the Islanders scoreless until the 6th. There were several opportunities for Poquoson but the Packer defense made the plays. Lincoln looked good keeping the hitters off balance. Both teams played a heck of a game and should be commended! Good job ladies.

Definitely a good game and alot of good defense by both teams. Smithfield is doing a very good job this year. We have a tough road this week and hopefully we will come out the other end with 3 wins. If the offense picks up and the defense stays steady, it will be an interesting season by the end. Good Job Packers and Islanders

2 of Poquoson's starters were not playing in the game. Page Turner did not play and they had move people around as well as their line up and still prevailed.
