Warwick eager for rematch against Gloucester
By Dave Johnson | djohnson@dailypress.com

It's the lone blemish on Warwick's record in Peninsula District play. And it's stayed with the Raiders for four weeks.

On March 21, in a matchup between the district's two most-talented softball lineups, Gloucester embarrassed Warwick, 12-3.

Warwick (9-1 PD) has found its groove going into Friday's rematch against the Dukes (9-1) at Riverside Elementary. The winner of that game will be in the driver's seat for the regular-season championship.

"Big game," Warwick coach Jimmy Dawson said. "Next to the championship, this is the biggest game we'll play."

As for what went wrong in March, Dawson said his team was its own biggest problem.

"There were several issues within the team that day, and girls have to feel well to play well," Dawson said. "But after that game, we got everything all ironed out and have been playing on all cylinders."

Dawson hopes to have catcher Erica Ward back for Friday's game. Ward broke the index finger on her left (glove) hand against Denbigh on March 29.

You know Snoclaf your comments are becoming annoying! You always have something negative to say! If I can remember correctly I think your York High Team got blasted by them this year in the preseason game! And besides that you say how strong the BRD is....look at ALL the talent YORK has <that is where you are from> you have 5 players that AAU together and you are still at the bottom of the pack for standings! I did not want it to get to this, but everytime you post a comment it is negative! GOOD LUCK WARWICK and GLOUCESTER...may the best team WIN!

May The Best Team Win... You said it. Why is it that the coach of the losing team in the Daily Press article I was responding to couldn't say the same thing? It appears if they beat Denbigh 20-0 then all is great, but if they lose 12-3 then the team didn't feel well and had some issues? I'm sure that's the reason they lost, it couldn't be because Gloucester happened to be better that day could it? As far as my negative comments go- i'm only going to say, I have a right to my opinion and I'm not going to be a blog cheerleader for all the BRD or PD. I will give credit when credit is due to players and coaches. It doesn't mean I have no respect for other players or teams. Moving on, you need to re-read all of my comments they are not all negative and no where have I bragged on the "Strong BRD" but if I want to I can, after all I'm entitled to an opinion. Just as you.. yop are the one after all trying to get the PD and BRD to pick 9 girls from each side to see who's best. Maybe you should check your comments. I can admit, and did when i'm wrong, can you? And last are you really trying to imply York got blasted by Gloucester in pre-season? The game was never finished the coach for Gloucester took the pitcher out and finished pitching. I don't even know what to say about that.

Should be a good match-up. Good luck to both teams!

I agree that the comment "girls need to feel well to play well" came across awkwardly and maybe a little sexist. I find that a weird thing for a high caliber coach to say. I call him high caliber because of the ball his team has played so far. I do think that today will be one heck of a game. I predict Atkins and Coates dueling it out. I give the edge to Atkins in this rematch - nerves are out. I think that's what the coach was talking about originally: nerves.

I knew it wouldn't be a matchup between Coates and Atkins because Atkins pitched the first time they lost 12-3 and they hit her pretty good so I kinda figured they would give Gloucester a different look with Byrd. Yes, snoclaf I went to watch Gloucesters scrimmage the day they played York and for some reason after they had only played not even an hour Gloucester coach said umpires needed to leave and he got on the mound and started pitching. Could it have been because the bases were loaded and York was hitting...?

Are you saying that Red Lyndsay got out on the field and started pitching? Did I read that correctly?

Yes, Hpt Transplant you are reading correctly. I was concurring with Snoclaf that their coach(he does have red hair). I didn't know his name but not even an hour into the game he got on the mound and pitched I guess batting practice. The York girls got to go through their line up hitting. It might have been coincidence but a tall girl w/blonde hair(I thought someone siad her name was Ashley) had just hit the ball to the fence and knocked in a couple of runs. Some people were saying that Gloucester's coach said his umpires needed to leave. I had never seen that happen before in a scrimmage or any game for that matter.
