These are all great accomplishments.I`m sure Coach Red from Gloucester or maybe Coach Tallon from Woodside could help out with this one.I`m not sure if they would come on here and post but they probably have the answers or at least some of them. Two great individuals as well as coaches who will look out for their players and as well as others from the other teams. I bet that there are players out there that may be setting a milestone for them like Coates did with her 100th hit last week that either maybe don`t know or maybe just don`t care but could be a record. But I do think that team and individual stats should be taken more seriously. It does look good if you are planning on playing softball at the college level on your player prospective application. You want the information to be as close to accurate as it can be . Sometimes the college coach may call or email and confirm them because players and parents can get a little carried away with stretching the truth just a little bit.I`m kinda guilty of that myself with my son for basketball. That`s just all about being a parent I guess.

I don't know for a season, but I believe Gabby Prior (Gloucester) holds the STATE VHSL record for most RBIs over a varsity career. To my mind, she was one of, if not *the* most fearsome hitters ever in the PD. She graduated a couple of years ago. With Mia (Johnson) at cleanup, and Kayla (Nance) fifth, Red had one wicked middle of the lineup.

I agree that the VHSL record book is a good reference, but it is only as good as the information sent in. There was an instance this winter where a school thought one of its basketball players had broken the Group AA girls career scoring record because of what was listed. Turned out several others had scored more points, but weren't listed.
That said, if anyone who prefers not to post in this forum wants to send information directly to me, I'll post it back here.

It would even be nice if some of these girls could get public recognition for their accomplishments at their schools with the previous stated topics but records for that school. I would make for interesting reading. And drive a sense of competitiveness.

Hey CB, why aren't you at church? Does your daughter have practice?
Also I would agree it would be nice to see some of the school records at least, this would be a good thing that the coaches for their respective schools should have?
But on the other hand it may promote individuality rather than promotion of team? Not sure but either way it would be nice if we could get a gauge on some of the potential records?

Is there any easily-accessed official source where one can look up high school records such as softball? Lynne, you make a good point about information being sent in. Also, competition varies from region to region. That is easily seen in this area, where Southside has been very dominant over the Peninsula in regional softball play. Could a softball pitcher from the PD, for instance, have the same stats if she were pitching over there? I don't know.
Also, records are just records --- just like grades and SAT scores are not the full measure of a student, so statistics are not the full measure of an athlete, or her contribution to a program.

Thank you, Lynn. So now Gabby Pryor (Gloucester) is second in carrer RBIs, having been eclipsed by Courtney Steele of Manassas Park by 15, according to this record book. These girls certainly knocked in a lot of runs!
