Hornsby hit a triple, not a homerun. The umpires ruled that the ball did not leave the ballpark and he was credited with a triple.

LMAO! C'mon, Big D you have some pretty good wheels for a big man. Maybe not "triple" wheels, but you can darn sure scoot around the bases pretty well!:D

I noticed on the PD board that a lot of guys are complaining about the umpires also. Ya'll think this is a trend? Inexperienced umpires? Or just head up butt calls?

for the most part the umpires this year have been pretty good. umps wont get every call right but the ones yesterday were just horrendous. the home plate umpire was probably about 80 years old. maybe the brd should start hiring some younger guys

LMAO! That's funny. Someone over on the PD string suggested moving the game times to a later start time because it's too difficult for some people to get off of work at 2:30 or 3:00 to get to the start of a 4:30 game. There's some truth to that. Biggest problem there is, not every team has lights. Darkness would get you early in the season. Makes you wonder if some of the "younger" wanna be umps would sign up to call a game or two each week. I know these guys get paid to be there but realistically speaking the paltry amount they get paid just about amounts to volunteering their time after you factor in travel time, meal and fuel expenses. Add to that the fact that umpiring can be very difficult. The Boys in Blue take a lot of heat from coaches and fans - I know - been there done that at the Rec League level.....somebody is NEVER happy with the close calls - LOL!

even if the umpires were terrible, they do not cause a loss by 6 runs. Poor game played by lafayette, and well played by smithfield.:) Lafayette has lots of work to do.
