Brandy Edmonds, a Nansemond River High senior, has earned a spot on the Virginia Commonwealth University cheerleading team and will become a part of that squad when she enrolls at the school in the fall, said Nansemond River cheerleading coach Vicki Stewart.
Edmonds, who's been accepted at VCU and who participated in the Rams' tryouts last week, captained the Warriors during the current school year, her second on the team. She is the latest in a line of former Nansemond River cheerleaders to move on to the college level.
Kristina Fontenot cheers at the Naval Academy and Ashley Smith at VCU. Both are 2007 NRHS graduates. Other former Warriors in the college ranks include Leah Fontenot at the University of Illinois and Whitney Alston at Howard. Beth Hobbs previously cheered at UVa. and LaKeishia Copeland previously cheered at Norfolk State.
