HRA second after first day of TCIS golf
Greenbrier Christian (314), Hampton Roads Academy (320) and Norfolk Academy (324) shot the best three scores in Tuesday's first round of the Tidewater Conference of Independent Schools tournament at Bide-a-Wee in Portsmouth, earning the right to play for the title Wednesday at Cedar Point.
Norfolk Academy's Evan Beck led the individual race with an even-par 72. HRA's Trevor Times, Walsingham's Walker McCarthy and Norfolk Collegiate's Robert Powell were tied for second at 76.
The top 10 individuals not on the top three teams will advance to Wednesday's play as well.
Behind Times, Parker Wingfield (79) and Ryan Patrick (80) paced HRA.
Fourth-place Walsingham (330) missed the team cut, but McCarthy, Nick Funk (82) and Fuller Ramsey (85) advanced.
Nansemond-Suffolk Academy (376) finished ninth, led by Peter Werszner at 90. Peninsula Catholic (421) was last, paced by Mike Robinette's 94.
