-- I love this feature: The day's biggest stories are where you expect them to be, just as they are on the main dailypress.com/sports page. Hopefully, the day's biggest one will have a picture with it.
-- All you have to do to get to the message boards is click "Your Forums."
--All you have to do to get to the photos, both from our award-winning staff and our great fans, is click "Your Photos."
--See what the hot topics are by looking at "New Posts" and "Today's Posts." The "last 10" posts feature on the old HRVarsity.com page are gone, so this is a way to make up for it.
--On this point, I speak only for myself (Sonny Dearth), not for anyone else in our office. When I receive a call for information, I type it immediately into whatever forum is appropriate. For example, if Menchville's Phil Forbes or Hampton's Danny Mitchell calls me with a result, I type it into the Peninsula District Baseball forum. If a boys tennis coach calls me with a result, I put it in the Boys Tennis forum. And if there's a spot on our Scoreboard for it, I'll put the score in there.
This way, you get the information practically as quickly as we get it. It takes a while to get the information in the proper form for the print edition, or to trim it into the newspaper's limited space. I don't want those issues to affect the flow of information -- if you want an example, see how much was in the newspaper on the Peninsula District tennis finals compared to how much was on HRVarsity.com.
--I'm trying to make sure the everyday High School Roundup can be larger than what ends up in the print edition. We make some tough cuts on that every night, and there's no need to cut it here.
--Don't hesitate to put photos up there. I've taken quite a few myself with my cell phone at the various prep tennis tournaments at Huntington Park in the last couple of weeks.
--Bear with us as we learn the nuances of this system. We hope you enjoy the good debate -- just keep it clean and don't get personal! Thanks, Sonny
